which way should i go?

my house looks like a tornado hit it.
the chair is almost done, but....
that's just primer on there and i'm wondering....
white, black or red for the actual wood part?
inquiring minds want to know.
i'm leaning towards bright fire engine red.
need to fold laundry
just the tip of the ice burg.

make sure you come back monday i've been working on a tutorial that i'm pretty excited and antsy to share with you all. have a great weekend, i'm going to clean.

Oh I love it!! So I say paint it black, no red, no black, no red.... Oh man this is a tough one. I'm sure what ever you pick will be fabulous! Can't wait to see it finished and I also can't wait for the new Tutorial... Seriously you just rock!

That's tough!! I wanted to say black at first, but now I don't know...The black would match your desk and the red seat would make it POP! But red woul be beautiful too...

I just dont' think you can go wrong with either!

New Commenter Here...I just love your blog.

I would go red, but I would not go fire engine, but a deep red wine or burgundy with black tone in it.

I love toile.

I say red, though like Rachel H. said above, black would make that beautiful fabric pop.

You won't go wrong either way. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

See, I really think red will overwhelm the chair and take away from the kick-ass fabric you have there. I am actually liking the primer, so I lean towards white - but it depends on what you're going for. Do you want modern elegance? Well, then black. Do you want summery and cheery? Then white. But I would say stay away from red!

I know I'm in the minority here, but I say white!
Can't wait for your tutorial.

My vote is black. I agree it would make that fabric stand out more. I think red would blend it in more.

Lisa said...

I am gonna have to say red!! Looking forward to Monday and the tutorial :)

LOVE the white!!!

Nicole said...

I'd say black, but then I'm no fun, I paint EVERYTHING black. I think red would look really cool also, especially if your using if at the black desk!

I think it's pretty in black, white or red... my real question is can I come live at your house? If that's "a tornado hit" mess in the background.... I'm moving to where there's those kind of tornados! Obviously you are much better at the housekeeping thing than I am :)

Go for the RED!

Adrienne said...

red to match the fabric

Carry Grace said...

That is a tough one. I would normally say black, but I'm in the middle of making black things white in my house. Not sure about red, but it may be just perfect. Hmmm....can't wait to see what you decide.

Sandy said...

I love the fabric you have on it - looks great! I say red...I think it should "coordinate" with the desk, not "match"!

Mary on Lake Pulaski said...

Since you asked....I really like white with the fabric and desk. So just another coat of white and you're good to go.

Wonder what that next tutorial is going to be...can't wait.

I like everything you do. But if I had to vote, I say black...

I absolutely LOVE your blog! It's a daily check for me. The colors in this picture are just thrilling. I love them! I think red would be awesome, but maybe too much with that gorgeous fabric. Black would be great, but I think the white is perfect!

I don't mean to rock the boat, but do you have any blues in your house? I'm not talking music. I love the red and robin egg blue thing. Benjamin Moore prescott green would be beautiful with the red, but that's if you have other things to match. Otherwise white.

I completely agree with the minority! I think white is fresh clean and gorgeous with the fabric! I vote white. Love the blog!

Lisa @ Life with 4! said...

i say black. it would really make the red & white stand out!

Marci said...

i'm saying white...i think white would go better with your other furniture...the buffet. the beautiful, beautiful buffet.:)

Lexi said...

I say do a base coat red...then paint white over and :scuff it up so just a little red shows through...
I too love your blog. I am your friendly neighbor f.g. cousin.
:-) And an admitted blog stocker.

I think red would be marvelous!

I vote RED. I love red! In fact, I am getting out my red paint this weekend. Watch out.

Black!

It's my first time here and I'm going out on a limb...What about yellow or turquoise? But my conservative answer is white. : )

Red or white... NOT BLACK!

Anonymous said...

paint it red underneath and black over the top and then sand it down so the red peeks through

erica e said...

white
or maybe black
i also like the black with red peeking out underneath suggestion.

I think red would look nice with the seat fabric, but distressing it with black sounds nice too. I always get freaked out about picking colors, but I try to remember if I don’t like it I can always redo it.

I think the red will make the fabric really pop!

Cute Chair. Cute Fabric. I'm partial to white. I painted some barstools black last summer, and I'm totally regretting it. They're going to be white this summer. (I hate that every fingerprint, dust and crumb show) Me thinks it might be fun to paint it blue. Blue Birdy Blue. ;o) ooxx`jod

Wendy said...

if you are limited to those colors, then I think distressed black, even though red is a very close second. I just painted my dining room table chartruese and I love it!

Jill@Barnes Yard said...

Ok, red would be fine, but YELLOW would be fabulous! Seriously, yellow is the new red. I'm painting an old highchair yellow right now.

I would go for white - I love white painted wood.

red might be too much. i do think it would pop but with your other decor i think you gotta go with classy.

Either white or red!

Love the fabric choice! My vote is white, more black would be too much black. White would really say wow, in front of the black cabinet. And doesn't everyone want their furniture to say WOW? I am off the check out more of your blog now...

I say black for sure. It will go nicely with the desk and then put something red on the desk. Awesome!

Great project! I think black would make the cushion pop!

Vanessa,
Love the chair! I think the red would look best. Can't wait to read the tutorial. Jana

BLACK! My hubby said once you go black you never go back! And he's right- all my stuff in my house is black lately!

I want to paint my kitchen chairs, how do you do it? I don't want them to chip and rub off on everything. And I don't know if the paint will stick with the finish on the wood. Do you sand them first? I'm asking you cause you are the pro you know.

rachel griffith said...

:D
thanks.
i got those fat quarters from the quilt shop down the street.
you want me to get you some just like them???
we can barter.
lol.

Felicia said...

Gosh, V. After reading everyone's votes it sounds like you're no better off than where you started. I guess you'll have to do what YOU want...or go with X GIJoe's opinion. :o)

Kara said...

Vanessa, you are incredible! Next I will be asking you about another wall. But, did you know my lovely children were "playing" (uh huh, sure) and the mantle came down on Emery and broke her foot. (We gorilla glued it so it won't come down again.) Ha ha, so it makes me nervous to just set a huge mirror there. Oh and what is a hurricane? See I really am clueless.

And the chairs. I have 4 chairs and the table (I want to paint just the legs and back black) do you think it is worth it? Is it way too hard? Should I just buy a new table and chairs (someday lol)?

Anonymous said...

Aren't you sorry you asked? Hee,hee.

V and Co. said...

well by golly people. if you can believe it i counted everyone's votes and guess what, it came out equal on red black and white...and i had 2 suggestions for blue AND yellow...what do i pay you guys for? you are no help! ;)

I HAVE to know - is this chair the same "free" chair a few posts down? I have six of them (in their original form) and I am dieing to change them. I have the table too. Too cool! I'd love to know how you "transformed" it.

Great stuff - love the braided rug, too.

I'll have to give opinion now that you've told us it's a tie. Because it HAS to be white. :-))

I'm sure I"m way late...NOt sure what you chose, but hoping you made it white. :)

Suz said...

I would go red.. first though was black, but like the pop of red. I see you later changed the fabric... liked this one better (sorry).

If you stay with the polka dot, I might have to say black.

Too many options... :)
