so when i found these lovelies at my second hand store,
the big one was $2 and the medium was $1.
i instantly started to look for candles that would fit my hurricanes. and i like how the candle fit in the medium one...but something was off about the big one.
what i came up with was this.
decorative balls... oh yes i did, because i'm obsessed enamored with them right now. (can't you tell?)
before you know it i'll be making earrings, or putting some in katie's hairbows.
okay maybe not.
other things that i might put in there with change of seasons would be oranges, lemons, limes, mini pumpkins, christmas balls... and so forth.
i like how it gives my eyes texture to look at.
oh and do i dare say it?
i think these are starting to get me in the mood for fall!
just a little bit.
shh don't tell summer.

Last year for Christmas my mom snuggled a candle down in the middle of peppermints.
Love them! I love glass jars and hurricanes! I can't wait for Fall! I look forward to fall and winter as soon as spring starts, lol! It is my favorite time of the year!
Love them! I just INFORMED the man that we will be making twine balls! Your blog is the colors i want all over my house...white, green, red and blue! Love!
My mum-in-law's love of hurricanes is contagious cos now I adore them too. I'm impressed that you got yours for so cheap!! Nicely done!
love the hurricane display! come check out my last posts...it's already fall at my house...LOL, yep, b/c I'm a freak like that!
Looks great. I can't believe you found the hurricane's that cheap. Great find!! I really like how you used the textured balls.. they look perfect!
This is a fabulous use of the hurricanes. I would never have thought of it! I have some hurricanes laying around here somewhere that I'm going to have to go be creative with now! Cindy
I Love these but I can never find any cheap ones, they are always so expensive!!
my mom has about a million hurricanes...i'm going to steal, i mean borrow, some NOW!
I like putting naked barbie dolls or last night's leftovers in my hurricanes.
See? You haven't cornered the market on fabulous ideas after all.
I think you just solved my mantle decorating dilemma! Thanks!!
What an awesome idea. I have a couple of hurricane glasses and all I ever put in them are candles. You have inspired me. I like your vignette with the green balls the best. Nice!
Smiles,
♥Ana
Wish I had a mantel or even a surface that I could put something like this on. Some houses in FL don't have fireplaces - kinda like when I lived in CO, we didn't have central A/C. But, it looks great!
Love the way these look, but I'm seriously thinking you need a pottery barn intervention! Are you on their payroll or something? And I'm so jealous because my local thrift stores have NO good stuff in them! I wasted hours last week just looking for something cheap and cool... found a couple of cool things that were not cheap... oh well. Maybe I'll get lucky this week. Your house is inspiring me to at least try!
Totally LOVE IT!!
Seriously...
Lou Cina :)
Pretty! I, too, have many glass hurricanes sitting in my closet waiting to come out and make their debut. They were so pretty I had to buy them...but what to do with them?? Now I know!
Oh, I do love the idea of little mini pumpkins and gourds. Also, glass ornaments at Christmas. I really like this one. Thanks for sharing.f
I did that one year at Christmas, put Christmas balls in my hurricane. Looked really pretty on my dining table.
Oh, what a great idea!! I just might have to bring mine out that I have put away. Thanks for the inspiration.
BAHA! okay you found me out i just invested in PB stock hence why i'm pushing it so much.
i'm totally kidding
but i'll back off the PB references a little! ;)-V
I use this same idea for apothecary jars. Right now my jars are filled with lemons and strawberries. I have already purchased mini gourds and pumpkins for the fall. I also have some pumpkin color decorative balls I bought last year on clearance. Oh and I put eggs in it for Easter.
I love what you have in these and the grouping. Great idea.
Crap! Another cute thing that I am just going to have to do because you are such a creative wizard. (wink wink)
Love the yarn balls inside!
Ooo, I like!
I have a few of these stashed away in my "keep but not using right now" box. I think I'll have to pull them out and think of something creative to put in them for fall! Thanks for the great idea.
*gasp*
Mini pumpkins! Now I need hurricanes AND mini pumpkins!
Love it!
You always come up with the most inspiring things. Thanks for sharing.
Have a great day.
What a great way to show off some color!
I love reading your blog - you crack me up (is that too Australian a comment????. I love the way you have used the hurricanes, pity there isn't a decent thrift shop here in our town.
V...I love your new inspiration. It's fun to get creative in small ways like that! I think the change in colors, etc. for the seasons would be just wonderful! Great job!!!
Funny...I was just thinking about repurposing my glass hurricanes, but couldn't think of anything good. This is good!
Thanks
~Amanda

I'm following you.
Yeah. well I need one right now here at my house! I bought an older light at my TS, that needs a hurricane. The dumb thing is, not too many weeks back there was a hurricane at the very same TS I bought the light at, I had picked it up and had it in my cart and then put back on the shelf...Hello! Where is it now? (You haven't been going to the Vernal DI have you? LOL) But truly, I love how you have done these! Great ideas! ANd yeah, (again with the yeah...) I do want your button. I think I'll just grab it! Thanks. Have yourself a great week end! :-D Mercy Otis
So great, but you already knew that! I love to have a set decor in my house, but that can be slightly changed with the seasons!! Looks great, without a ton of work. Love it!
Very, very cute. I have a few left over from one of the kids wedding receptions that are gonna get dusted off. Thanks for the inspiration. Again. Mimi
Aha! I am going to "borrow" your idea of having cranberries inside my own glass containers. I usually put chocolates but man, my weight sure goes up! Great idea! Thanks for sharing!
I love the look you've got going on here! How is it that Pottery Barn makes things look so luscious?
Brenda
Love them! I think I might have to 'borrow' the cranberries idea as well :)
Love the hurricane lamp idea, now you've got me started thinking of all kinds of ideas. Table centers, on mantles, window ledges, everywhere; with anything in them. Thank you so much.
