a few before and afters

i'm ready to unveil a little more of our house to you.
while the husband had some time off last week. we had the idea to finish up a few more things on our list of things we needed to get done in and out of the house.
granted our list is monstrous but we are doing one thing at a time as time and funds permit.
for example this is the master bedroom closets (and all the other closets as well) when we were looking at the house. notice the pinkish glow...well that's because the opposite wall is sponged tomato orange-red...i'm saving to show you that for another day...you can only handle so much of this house at one time. (trust me)
husband changed out all our closet doors in the house to these nice bi-fold doors. it really helps with the house not looking so 1970's.

oh sorry... yes, did you scream out loud?
i did when i saw it.
i was like "holy moses! who in their right mind does this kind of stuff?"
and then i cried.
i like color but come on.
all i've got to say is that those must of been some good drugs.
so before we moved in we painted it...white.

and while my in laws were in town, my father in law helped my husband put up all new doors in our house.
the last and final thing we worked on this last week was finishing up the covering up of the smurf blue we had going on the outside of our house. before the husband went over seas we did some of it but didn't get to finish it all. the goal this summer was that we weren't going to have any more blue...

and well here's a picture as of yesterday, with ALL the blue covered up FINALLY.
edited: i should note that when we were looking at the house this was one of our only options, there were no other houses for sale and well that's why i kept crying everytime i would turn a corner. i don't think we would of bought this house if there were other options...but we're glad we did. the view is amazing and it's a really nice house. not my dream house, but a really nice house and it serves it purpose...keeps us warm at night and gives us a place to call home.
***************
last week we also enjoyed:
*BBQ-ing with great friends and neighbors
*playing board games and making a puzzle (star wars of course) by the end of it, it was just the husband and i up till midnight with bloodshot eyes putting the blasted thing together.
it was a nice way to end the summer.

Oh good grief that blue all over is frightening!!! I love the fresh, clean look of the white walls! We might need to do that in our bedroom because it looks pretty dingy.

WOW - what a transformation! You have a good insight into what things "can be"!!!

I know what you mean. I have a house kinda in the same perdicament. It's an older house and needs a face lift still.. the outside anyway. I love the doors and the floor in the hallway. You guys did a great job revamping the house. And you have green grass now! Looks great.

OMG! What a great redo. You have changed the whole thing. I don't know if I would have seen what potential was there. Keep up the good work!!

Thank you for making me smile! Your story (blue! what a fantastic colour! Ahem.) reminded me of my first year of marriage .

We were a young couple and we just bought our first house.
It as cheap.
Because all the corridors and the kitchen walls were painted in bright orange...

Some good drugs indeed!

K said...

What a transformation on the house (I now think we need shutters, my husband thanks you I'm sure). The green grass helps a lot too :)

Wendy @ Ramblings from the Sunshine State said...

WOW, I like blue but holy crap! lol.

Looks much better white.

We have a ton of things to do around here, too. Our house was built in 1962 and it shows. The kitchen could easily be on one of those worst-room-in-the-country shows. HORRIBLE cabinets... all dinged up and stained and dirty, black handles that look like spades on the end, attached at an angle, teal linoleum floor...

The bathroom has brownish-orangish-pinkish trim tile. It's bad. Oh and the cheap, hollow doors that the paneling peels off of. But we are SLOWLY getting there.

Lara said...

Beautiful - just beautiful! The exterior doesn't even look like the same house - but a lovely home where love abides :) Great job!

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! Good drugs is right! Or something.......Yikes! The redo's are AWESOME!

See, you picked the right house after all! It just goes to show that it's the layout of the house that matters, the cosmetics can always be changed. I love the porch, that is rare to find in a ranch. I think you should turn yourself in to BH&G, they're always having before and after contests!
Did you guys put in the wood floors, or were they hiding under that nasty old carpet? And seriously, do you know who lived there before, because I honestly can't believe anyone could actually think- wow, that blue is so pretty! Unless they were on crack.

Wow! You have a wonderful gift of seeing the potential. I've noticed that in all your spray painting projects but your house redo seals it. I wish I had that gift! I would have seen the walls, closets, and outside of the house and said, "No thank you!" I am completely amazed!

catie said...

OH MY! That blue is...BLUE! We had the same issues with our house when we bought it, including a crazy faux paint that includes not 1, not 2 or ever 3, but FOUR ugly colors all mixed together. It's amazing what some paint can do. Your house looks so cute! Great job!

Lucky for you I had just swallowed my cereal as I read..."all i can say is they must of been some good drugs." You crack me up. I almost had ceral all over my screen.
The front of the house is just a phenomenal after. You and your hubby really turned it around. I am sure the neighbors love it too. No more smurf house in the neighborhood anymore.

You guys have done an amazing job! It's crazy how a little thing like color and new doors can make such a HUGE difference.

Love the before/afters.
So, let me just say... you crack me up! I love to laugh. I mean I LOVE to laugh. There are those days as I am checking blogs that I just want to get through them, or skip some altogether (lets face it, with a 5 and 3 year old and 4 month old twins I have a lot of THOSE DAYS!). But whenever I notice a new one from V and Co. and get excited. I LOVE how you repurpose used things! Not only do you keep me rolling with laughter, but I get inspired also. Like, all the time! So anyway, today is one of those days that the babes want to nurse CONSTANTLY so I (kicked) encouraged my older kids to PLAY OUTSIDE DANGIT! As I started checking blogs it was like serenity for once today when I saw you had posted. So, with my constantly hungry babes I have been planted infront of my computer for a good part of the day going back through your old posts. I know, it sounds a little weird and probably a bit creepy. But it is what has made this day bearable.
I feel like I can relate, at least in part, to you. One entry in particular (and this will tell you how far back I was in your blog-I swear I am not psycho) was your shopping experience with your kids. One getting stuck, the other climbing out, and the hilarious one thinking that being a goofy cluts is going to make everything okay. Seriously, I was laughing so hard I had tears.
It's good to find someone like me out there.
Keep up the wonderful posts!
