my before and after::the kitchen

can i just tell you that i cried when i saw that this was the only option for me when we were looking to move into this town? we were looking to buy when there were no other houses on the market and this was it...you've seen the living room , the bedrooms here and here (and there's more but i'm still working on my bedroom!) and the outside well here's the kitchen then...
love the lacquer and the vintage '70s nasty handles and dark wood...oh and looove the microwave mounted on the metal shelves thing...well my GI joe husband and i had lots of plans, but we're one of those type of couples that stress over borrowing on credit cards...so we started saving over a year ago... and we went through almost all of the money but i love what he's done with it!
see that new oven...that's the nicest oven i've EVER had! i cooked on it tonight and it scared me to death to ruin something on it...it's my new neurotic problem...keeping the oven clean and safe from yuckiness...wonderful like i need any more ocd issues...
we tried to buy a new sink but all the newer sinks were too big so we stuck with the old one and that meant i could spend a little more on the faucet...i loooove my faucet, still nothing too fancy but once again the nicest faucet i've EVER had...

i still need to buy some handles for the cabinets to match the drawer handles, and i still need to patch up some nail marks in the wall from the gross mounted microwave, but all in all i FINALLY LOVE MY KITCHEN! all thanks to my wonderful GI joe husband's hard work.
*oh and i'm still trying to figure out if i like the yellow-y brown tanish looking color on the wall behind the cabinets...any suggestions, comments or love?

Wow Vanessa- it looks GREAT!! I love it all from the paint to the counter tops to the fabulous fun island. Did you guys do this yourselves? I am beyond impressed. I love it, love it, love it!

Now what is this about your time getting short? Are you moving? Honestly, I miss a month blogging and I am totally out of the loop. I hope all is well.

What a dramatic difference! It's so lovely and I adore the plates above the stove. The wall color.. id doesn't bother me at all. I'm not in love with it but I can see it as a very versatile and warm neutral so just play around it with accessories.

GREAT job on your redo!

Perfection! The blue curtain is perfect with that color wall and the white cabinets are so awesome. I want white cabinets but if I mention painting one more time to my husband he might just go to deer camp a few weeks early and stay! And could I please borrow your husband for a while. I also want a new counter top. I won't keep him too long. blessings, marlene

Wow! That is an amazing change! It is beautiful! I love it! I think the wall color works, but if you were going to change- I would go with a soft buttery yellow. It would look great with your blue accents and the white cabinets. Good work! Very impressive- all of it!

Wow, that's about all I can think to say, Wow! It looks incredible, what a difference. I really did not see any potential in those 70's
cabinets, but boy was I wrong. What are your counter tops made of? I need new counter tops in the worst way, and your look awesome.

Wow! I think it looks amazing. What a neat husband you have that would spend so much time and effort just because he knew it would make you happy. That is truly the secret to marriage. Have fun in your new kitchen. Take care.

I have to say... I LOVE it. It really looks pulled together. We are kind of in the same situation at our house, and we're slowly trying to fix it! I really like the wall color! We must have the same taste though! I'm pretty sure we have the same stoves! Our color schemes are almost identical! I wish my kitchen was set up more like yours though, I'm seriously jealous of the island! Great job! You make me want to get busy and finish mine!

I can't believe you lived in that other kitchen for so long. I'm not sure what amazes me more; how awesome it looks now, or that you lived in the other one for so long without going OCD crazy.

Oh my word! We have even more in common! I am almost crying here - I have those EXACT same cabinets in my kitchen and until I found this post, I had all but given up on ever trying to do anything with them except save up enough money to rip them out and put in new ones. If you ever get the chance I would love all the details... method, paint color, etc. Is that by chance the Marth Stewart kitchen island from K-mart?

Hallelujah! And I mean that with all sincerity. There is hope for my ugly cabinets!
