i think you sort of get that on my blog.
i also love old quilts.
i don't have any in my family.
a while ago i decided to start making quilts so that the tradition can begin of having old heirloom quilts passed along the way in our family.
it's been so nice for the last two days that i can not justify staying indoors all day near the computer or on the sewing machine. so what better time to work on "hand work" like they did back then. soaking up some vitamin D at the same time as well as shedding the paste-i-ness i like to call my limbs.
i love how this dresden plate turned out. i'm either going to frame it put it in a hoop, or keep going and make more. either way i love it a lot.
you can get this pattern in the book: Material Obsession: Modern Quilts with Traditional Roots
seriously the book is pretty sweet and the chicks are from down under.
they have nice weather down there.
like all the time.
they probably are always tan
and always doing hand work.

Looks super cute! I love the pattern and your fabrics - I need to get my hands on that book :) I've enjoyed the sunshine too - feels soooo good!
Come join the fun - the Quilt Festival is open for new links all week :)
Love the block.... turned out great!!! :o)
I am just loving your Dresden plate. The colors are just perfectly cheerful!
Keep going and make more! I love the colors and it would make a great quilt that your children can fight over as adults.
Love your block can you tell me where you got the red and white polka dot fabric and what line/co, it is from?
thanks
just adds so much to these 30's
Kathie

Your block is beautiful! It would make such a pretty picture on a wall.
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne
I really...really...really LOVE that. I love that fabric too...I think I would frame it...and sleep with it because I LOVE it so much.
It's great! I love your use of polka dots, really modernizes it!
I love it! Did you needle turn the points?
I love the colors! Isn't it amazing how quickly time goes by when you are working so hard?
Love it! and the American Jane fabrics, too :)

i spotted it in your camille pics.
actually i zoned in on it because i want it that bad.
and now you are making things out of it.
*sigh*
hahaha.
love the dresden plate you did.
SUPER cute.
and i bet those oz girls are SO tan...SO tan i wanna throw up just thinking abour ir.
tehehe.
silver scissors,
no i didn't do turn over. in the book it has a different method that made the appliqueing a dream and super easy to do!
I like new books! Now I have one to get. Although if I have handwork to do that means I can't sit on the porch swing and do nothing while I "watch" the kids play. :)
Keep going! LOVE it.
That is one gorgeous dresden plate block!!! I think a whole quilt would be amazing!!!
I love this pattern. I have been wanting to make one myself. Great job.
You mentioned tradition of passing down quilts. I love that myself. A while back my uncle gave me some quilt tops that my grandmother had made but were not quilted yet. It was a great feeling to finish a quilt that my grandmother had started and will be able to pass along to my kids. I receive a quilt from her that was finished. It is tattered and worn but I treasure that quilt.
I don't own a sewing machine, don't know HOW to sew, can hardly knit, and most certainly cannot crochet, but I love any and all handmade pieces. My grandmother used to crochet us blankets when I was younger, and stitch together the loveliest lace doilies. As I approach thirty I am desperate to learn to make these things myself so I can pass on heirlooms and traditions...or maybe even just for the sheer joy of curling up in a blanket that I made and knowing I put time and effort into something comfy-cozy. Thanks for the inspiration!
Love it! The polka dots and florals are so cute.
That's the cutest DP I've ever seen! Love you fabric and color choices. It's a plate-o-happiness!
V, as always...stunning! You have a great eye for color.
Renee
I just love your Dresden plate pattern. It's funny, but I just looked at that book yesterday when I was at Borders. I didn't buy it, but I'm going to put it on my wish list. I've never made a quilt myself, but would love to start.
That center circle sure looks like THE chair. Was it left over from yor stash? Love your projects!
PS--The picture with the window frame and white pitcher you sent me turned out soooo great!! Thank you again.
Hi there! I'm new to your blog and new to sewing, and thank you for the inspiration and "how to's" for beginning my journey with sewing!!
I'm thinking that a quilt or table runner or something made out of the Moda Fresh line would look AWESOME with the Dresden plate pattern -- like little sunshines:)
Love it! I want that as a pillow!

Hi V,
Just so cute, but that center fabric looks familiar!! hmmm did you steal a piece from Camille's chair...just kidding. But I do know your love of the chair, so maybe Camille should turn the cushion over and check!!
Great picture of you in the last post...love your hair.
~Karen~
Very Cute! I just got that book last week and it has some really fun quilts!
*sigh* Still like yours better. :-) Come back, and we'll make 10 more, drink pop and watch 30 rock. And I promise I won't keep you up til 4.
Seriously, I love it.
I love this! You do beautiful work. I, too, love the polka dot in the center. I think you should keep going and make more.
This is so cute. I've been really wanting to make one(?) of these so thanks for the inspiration! Also, thanks for tipping me off to the book. It's on my "want" list.
Someone commented on my blog today that you're doing a tutorial on dresden plates so I thought I'd visit since my blog post tomorrow is also a "how-to" dresden plate. I love your fabrics and anything polka dots!
I bought the "Material Obsessions" book a few weeks ago. Love it! Can't get over that quilt on the cover!
My Material Obsession book came today...did you use the special little tool...or did you just use a template? Thanks!
Oooh, this is a bit uncanny, weird!! Doo-do-doo-do! I won a Snippets layer cake from Sarah at Material Obsession just last week & when it arrived in the post on Monday, I took one look at it & thought, "That's just screaming to be made into a Dotty Dresden"! And tonight, I pop over to catch up on your blog (I've been away for a bit) & blow me down, there it is!! In all it's technicolor glory! The block looks as fantastic as I'd imagined. Perhaps great minds do think alike!!
I just put this book on my wish list with Amazon. :o) I have been aw struck with all the dresden plates in blog land. I am working on my very first one right now. I am doing a hand stitching, so take a little bit but I am really enjoying it. :o)
Sincerely, Trish
