we put her in her toddler bed.
this toddler bed was made by my father in law.
this bed is super sturdy and has survived
all
three
boys.
and now she gets it.
we anticipated a hard transition, but she's handled it pretty well and she even managed to take a nap or two in it as well.
boys vs girls : totally different breed
and my seducing skills paid off. we finally painted the boys room. i wanted to go darker but husband was like "it'll look better a lighter tan" i kept trying to seduce him into a darker paint but i guess my skills weren't that good. the boys kept asking why we were painting the walls white. HA. he thinks i paid them to say that. maybe i'll pay them just because...
even now as i'm typing this he's looking over my shoulder and saying "ugh. that's a horrible picture, you can't see the true color of the tan walls."
we'll live just fine with the darker shade of white for a while. i do admit that their room looks a bazillion times better than what it was before.
i'm still working on their room. i've neglected it till now. i don't really know how to decorate a boys room. it's super...ah...EXCITING with all the decor don't you think? i'm in the hunt of the perfect poster so i can frame it. and then i think that's it for their room.
we also minimized their "stuff" remember the whole get rid of your crap motto? i do it every month with the boys room. they seem to think that rocks and dirt with an occasional lizard thrown into the mix need to be brought into the house. the husband is working on getting a "rock garden" going just for them to keep the "nature" outside of our house. i think we've convinced them (especially after they tragically killed the last lizard...probably scared it to death) that their nightstand drawer was not to be used as a holding cell for any more live animals...

love the storm trooper helmets on the beds! and the star. funnily enough a friend and i were talking about those tonight. i have 3 under my bed because i don't have a clue what to do with them! any suggestions?
and yes, those walls are white ;)
I thought boys housing bugs in their drawers was just a stereotype! But I guess it came from somewhere. Ashlynn and I bring/brought bugs into the house, but always with an entire house put together in a jar or box clearly labelled. Again, the difference between boys and girls.
My uncle brought a cool stick in the house one time. A few days later, my grandmother opened the door to his bedroom to find it crawling with green. The stick had praying mantis eggs on it and they finally hatched into a million crawling baby mantises!
Moving green wallpaper might impress your boys. You should think about that decorating tip...
I love the contrast between the girl/boy rooms.
Both rooms are so cute...love them! I've only decorated girlie rooms, but your boys' room looks like it's from a magazine to me.
~Karen~
Definitely needs a colorful poster on those 'white' walls. Or maybe two posters?

Love the toddler bed! And I really like the rug in the boys room too. Your blog is beautiful!
what a beautiful little bed! I know she will have very happy dreams there.
awww...go katie go!!!
yayyy to a home without a crib.
{unless ummm you'll be needing it again...}
and the boys room...
i gotta say that the storm trooper helmets are beyond awesome. haha.
the walls DO look a darker white, but it works, until you seduce him to repaint. {hahahahahaha.}
My boy's room has so little stuff in it, because he always brings it in himself.
Congrats on no crib - when you are off diapers is the next step!?
Good morning Vanessa :)
I love the bed your dad made!
The boy's room looks great too! I had a hard time with my son's room when he was little, but Annie's room has always been the easy one, until now. She's 13, so her opinions are getting in the way of my "vision" LOL I nixed the zebra striped walls, but she's getting the bright pink and lime green. Next is the painting of the dresser and the desk that she wants white with brightly colored drawers ... oh and and mid century chairs... ugh.
Oh and sorry to write a book, but in answer to your question; I found the paint at Wally World in the mistinted paint isle for $3, but it's ColorPlace paint and the code is:
D 38 - T 7 - V 12
Thanks,
rue
Love that all your boys share a room. I am wanting to move my two together. Did it always work out well?
Are you sad now that you're done with the crib? I guess they have to grow up eventually. I'm glad the transition was easy for her.
Love them both! I kinda think simple is better when it comes to boys' rooms - fewer places for frogs to crawl. :)
Have you seen the Pottery Barn Star Wars stuff? http://www.potterybarnkids.com/room/rom/romboy/romboystrril/index.cfm
They have a really neat piece of wall art, but my fav is the pillow that reads: "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away ..."
Can you post a few more pics of your daughter's bed? My hubby is going to need to make one eventually, and it would be nice to be able to show him an idea or two. Thanks!!!
Their room is cute, but did you consider a darker color for the walls? :)
I know where you're coming from, my boys save EVERYTHING, living and otherwise. I sneak in to their room when they're at school and "declutter."
The rooms look great!! We are in the process of moving the kids around and redoing bedrooms here. I have thrown away so much stuff, I am overwhelmed at the amount of things the kids have! I like the idea of going through it every month, I am going to have to make that a habit.
I love the way you dressed the toddler bed. It looks magical. :)
How sweet that your daddy made that toddler bed. It's even sweeter that it survived the three boys so that your daughter can use it as well. Love the bedding on it and that canopy is just too adoreable.
Boys room looks fab too. What sort of poster were you looking for for their room?
your boys' room looks great! i had to laugh at the storm trooper helmets on the beds. that's too funny. my boys would love them. :)
Love the toddler bed... that is on my to do list... Grandma is going to have the quilt finished this week, then it's take down the crib and painting time.
Try Land of Nod for artwork? Your furniture & quilts are totally their look so you might find some vintage transportation or sports prints in a collection for the boys room. Unless of course you succumb to the force and do the whole SW thing. (I have the same clone wars helmets in a vintage train room)
Love her new little bed!!
Just be careful when we took our crib down not even 4 months later is when we found out about our surprise 5 child!
FYI... I am NEVER putting the crib away! :)

That toddler bed is fantastic and you dressed it so perfectly. The boys room is looking cute too (although my youngest would cringe at the word "cute" and say that it's supposed to look "cool", which it does also).
My boys are always dragging "outside" things into their rooms for safekeeping too. At least no one has brought any cool sticks that hatch praying mantis babys (Mae's comment above). Snakes and stray cats are bad enough!
That bed looks really cute. Love the Star Wars helmets on the beds, lol. My son is a big Star Wars fan. We found a couple Star Wars posters at Walmart, I also found some really cool Star Wars art on Etsy. Havent bought any yet though.
The toddler bed setup is gorgeous!
Your comment about living things in the boys' room made me think about my pet bullfrog that I finally found when we cleaned out our closet - it was petrified! My sister and I always tried to raise baby birds and tadpoles, but only the tadpoles survived. My mother must have been a saint!
The bed is adorable and the boy's room looks awesome. I love that rug in there.
Happy Monday!
dude...first of all where is that adorable iron bed???? i want to see the amazing quilts and 'stuff' that will be on that thing! second of all, your boys room was the stuff that boys dream of.;D
what a super sweet little girls bed. She'll love it. It looks so cozy and inviting. And white walls in boys room aren't that bad, I guess. :)
The room looks like it could be in a magazine. Definitely a photo shoot look.
I know what you mean, my 3 boys had more stuff in their pockets...keys, rocks, old string, sticks, and food...am I glad those days are over? No, not one bit. Now my grand boys come with all assortment of things at the cottage for "keep it safe Nana" and I have a box full of their stuff. So different from girls.
Lizard in their drawer -- eww! 20 years ago I had a dead mouse in a pocket of one of my sons jeans so I can totally relate. The way I understood it the mouse wasn't dead when it went in there either. Boys are so much fun!
It looks great! Both rooms. Although the boys is on the light side. :)
We just took our crib down too. Sigh.
I love the toddler bed, SO perfect! and if my boys had those clone wars helmets I'd never see their faces again!
Have you thought of making your own poster for the boys room with their pictures? You can do it on Heritage Makers for $15 www.YourUniqueStory.com
LOVE the toddler bed and the quilt! Boys are so funny when the millipede came to live in our home and then winston the fancy rat i had to curtail the creatures...i can only handle so much you know!!!
Everything looks great! I'd pay you for your extra paint, but I wanted TAN in our downstairs bathroom... :o)
I can't believe how organized your boys' room is. Is that a rug, or is it those carpet tiles from Flor? My mom and dad just left today to head back to Loa (boo hoo), and I just wanted to say thanks for working on the super cute baby quilt. Mom said you were behind the cute lettering. I love it!
the walls are not white. they look good. darker would be good too, but you won't tire of the creamy wall as early.
i LOVE the star trooper masks. too perfect. i like the simple decor and a poster will of course be awesome.
Oh, blessed day!! I'll have you know that Tom and I crossed that line when we left Monterey. We gave away all our high chairs, strollers, carseats, cribs, baby toys you name it...we gave it away. And yes, it was a monumental day!!
See, THAT is why you have a little girl. Her bedding is so sweet.... *sigh*
The boys room looks great. Wish I would have asked for some advice on my boys BLUE room from your hubby. It would have turned out better for sure.
And also, you better not get rid of that crib, I'm SURE we can put it to good use when you come down. I've been searching for pictures of your nursery but can't find them... although I did cry a little during the newspaper clipping post. A little might mean a lot... anyway- any idea where I might find them?
10 days!
So funny about the drawers not housing live animals. We have rocks galore as well. They always go through the wash. I like the animals, so I make homes for any that they bring home (bugs, fish, frogs, tadpoles, etc.)
Hi Miss V,
I'm new to your blog and I could easily get sucked in for hours reading up on all of your cool and beautiful projects! You make me tired just listening to you...and I only have three kids! :)
I really have enjoyed your blog and I will be back to see what clever thing you have come up with next.
Blessings!
Oh, I forgot to say that I agree with you..the walls are white ;)
K's room looks adorable. I loved the paint job you had in the condo in Provo~ for the boys...very classy. Jim is a white/light guy too. I always know what he will choose. we did our new laundry room in Cappuccino, he wasn't thrilled at the idea but now loves the room.
Super jealous of crafty father in laws...Love the biggish girl bed!!
Elise
I love that bed and bedding and pillow. its so girlie and dreamy. and absolutely special that your father-in-law made it!
I did one of my boys in a Nautical theme with sail boats and light houses, I have found a TON of nautical things at the DI to decorate his room with. My next plan is to make a pennant valance for his window.
The other boy room is done in a cabin/cowboy theme with a rusty oil (Empty of course) lantern and some spatterware dishes, barn star, and some cool fake barbed wire. We even have a wooden fish with hooks to hang their back packs on.
