i broke

after nearly 5 + months of not watching tv...i did it. i turned it on...and my justification was "they've been soo good all day playing outside...i can reward them with a little tom and jerry, what's the harm in that?" oh i'll tell you the harm. i let them watch like 2 hours, and they were glued to the screen hardly made a peep, and I LIKED IT! oh i am soooo ashamed how much i liked it. i sat in the corner reading a book while they melted their little brains out...i feel like i just ruined everything i just worked so hard for for such a long time. tomorrow is another day. i just hope that i don't make this "reward" and ongoing occurrence.

LOL! Don't you dare feel bad! The TV is the best in-house babysitter and once in a while it is the greatest book time anyone can hope for. Good for you!

WOW! 5 months of no TV! YOU are awesome! I find no TV during the school year is helpful especially on weekdays but summer??? Gotta have it ! We are currently having a Brady Bunch marathon. It is SOOOO fun and funny! The kids love it and it is so nostalgic for me. Helps us thru the hot and rotten part of the afternoons.

Are you nuts? Maybe we should replace our TV with goats and cows...

Vanessa, another thing we have in common. When Jen, Chris and Laura were growing up we got our TV stolen, among other things. Long story short we never replaced it until they got married. They were a little miffed by the way! But it was a good thing to let them grow up more like kids use to do. But I think that using TV as a reward occasionally is a good thing as long as it is monitored. Even once a day in the afternoon like she does is good. But the moms that use it continually~to me that is a mistake. You are all good...no worries!

You are AMAZING! I just don't know if I could do it--I rely on it often when I have a million things going on! (and girl, YOU have a million more than I!)

WAY TO GO! You'll be back on track--no worries!

I still say you should buy a PS3. That way they are not technically watching TV and their friends would love it...

Hey, don't feel too guilty. I read somewhere once that kids who watch around 10 hours of TV a week do better in school than those who watch more OR less. It can teach them new vocabulary, social skills, etc. I think it just depends on WHAT they are watching.

You did not brake! You are amazing to go 5 months!! I could never do it, with all kids home, nothing to play on outside...

hmmm...so if they learn social cues and vocaulary from programs...i guess tom and jerry would not be on the list for making kids smarter with the no talking and the constant trying to hit and one up eachother...
