my bedroom

one of most reoccurring questions i get through email and comments (besides, where'd you get those red shoes in your header (seriously, i've tried to find where they sell them with still no luck!), and where'd you get those jeans (shopko... they are actually petal pushers and were bought on the whim from the clearance rack due to my sitting in dog poop at a park), what camera do you use?, does the token system really work? (yes, it does and we've back away from being as strict with as we were before all because it worked so great!)) is the question of "what about your bedroom? how come i don't see pictures of your bedroom?"
hmmmm, well, i guess because there's not much to it. and i'm still trying to figure out what i want.
but i guess i should show you the before picture...brace yourself.
when this is your starting point...you could see why all white is the direction we went with the room. well, that and super heavy duty primer was all that would cover that sucker up.
i have some ideas of what i want. which all takes money...which means it will have to wait. and will happen just like everything else in my house...in increments. mainly inspired by really expensive things, found in not so expensive places, and sometimes made by me. but it includes a lot of light colors, and a lot of new mixed in with old.
but there you have it my really pain and boring bedroom.
we'll talk soon.

I can't wait to see what you do with your bedroom...I must tell you, reading your blog has completely inspired me to spend more time decorating my house. The first room is my studio (of course!) and after my trip to Ikea tonight it will be DONE! Yipee! So big thanks to you!!

I really like it the way it is. It seems very calming, but then I don't sleep there. The before reminds me of the walls of our living room when we moved in. Only they were purple but they had the same faux treatment.

Could you do us all a favor? Put a section on your blog where we can see all the before/afters of your house. Because seriously. Seriously. It's amazing. And in that section, perhaps you could link us to all the rooms in your house so that those of us who are shameless copycats can have an easier time of it? :)

And I only ask this because I love your style. And I think your "plain and boring" bedroom looks great.

Wow. I thought the previous owners of our house had a serious problem with the orange walls but that marbled mess is just... ick. Btw my bedroom's far more boring than yours. At least you had the good sense to paint yours white. We didn't. And now we want to paint it... well I do. Hubs doesn't care hehe

In regards to your "before" picture. Aren't you glad you close your eyes to sleep? Even then you might of had nightmares.
White walls are good, though.

Ahh at least you bedroom is clutter free!!

Oh your bedroom looks nice the way it is! The quilt is perfect....

I love the simplicity... it's very calming. I wish my bedroom looked that nice!! I love your headboard and footboard too.

Holy Smokes those walls! I still can't get over the effort it must have taken to paint your house in all those crazy colors. I can't imagine expending that much effort on something so bizarre that no one else in their right mind would want!

I love the calm of your room. And I still love that Shangri-La quilt.

Our bedroom is super plain too with a bunch of random posters and crap.. I don't let people see it, it's embarrassing.

i just recently did a makeover on our bedroom. maybe it'll give you some ideas. it turned out pretty cheap because I did a lot of diy projects. i spent a whole week talking about what i did to it and tutorials. http://www.simplymodernmom.com/2010/01/master-bedroom-makeover-reveal/

I love your bedroom, and love the font you used on the photos! Can you tell me what it's called?

I don't think boring is the right word. How about bright, fresh and clean? I would like to achieve something like that in my own bedroom, but it would involve my closet to stop regurgitating its contents onto my floor.

I just have to say that I really love your bed. Especially with those pretty quilts. Your "boring" bedroom is already about five thousand steps ahead of mine. :)

Your room looks great they way it is, but all of us can use a change once in a while. I really like the quilt that you have on the bed. I am looking to purchase my first house and you are one of the blogs that has inspired me to look at objects and furnishings differently to diy them!
P.S. What is the font that you use in your photos?

I really honestly love the look of your bedroom. It looks cool, crisp, soothing and serene. But, it will be fun to see what you do to your bedroom. Whatever I know it will be wonderful.

I think your room looks calming and relaxing! FAR from boring!

i don't think your room is boring at all! you have that window that gets all the light in. Even if you decide not to redecorate or paint, minimalism is still beautiful :)

Wow, I couldn't imagine why you changed the sponged wall. '
I really like what you have done and you can layer as time goes with your future finds and handmade whatnots. There is something to be said with a work in progress.
I am in the same position with the money. However, when I do add items to my house it is done with a lot of pride.
For most women, our home is an extension of who we are. Your home tells me that you are a very organized person who looks for peace and simplicity. You rock!!

I hate to belittle someones decorating style, but those before people were screamers weren't they???? Love how you've changed that. I would keep the bed the focus of the room it is so lovely and inviting and maybe hang a wonderful quilted wall hanging in the accent color of choice. But I know you'll do a better job than I ever could. CAn't wait to see what you actually do!

Someday I want to meet the people who owned your house before you... do they still live in your town? I know that I couldn't live in the crazy colorful house, but I'd love to meet the family who could. They've gotta be characters! I'd also love to meet you in real life- because you saw the beauty in the chaos, and that makes you a pretty special character as well :)

Happy Friday V!

what you call "plain" i call simply and relaxing.

I can TOTALLY see why you went with white paint after seeing the pink "before" walls. ;)
I am in the same pickle...wanting to do something to my bedroom, but it also take money. which i don't have now.
Why is it that is seems like my bedroom is always the last room to decorate?!?!

Vanessa-
I really like your bedroom how it is. I think it's nice to have a bedroom that's calm and soothing and relaxing and not to cluttered and chaotic. I'm sure whatever more you do will be cute, but I do think that in a bedroom less is more. Oh, and I love the white dresser as a bedside table, it's really cute. Speaking of that, with the furniture I've painted white lately, I feel like it's always getting dirty and I'm always wiping it down. Do you have that problem with yours too?!

this is amazing compared to some other bedrooms I've seen... but I won't mention where... ;) (I have a few ideas myself)

Vanessa,
For some reason, the "master" bedroom always seems to get neglected. I like to think of mine as purely functional and not a bit fashionable. But, this is exactly my goal this year as well....to make the bedroom something more of a retreat than a "fold laundry, play video games, everything else" kind of room. Good luck to you...I've got a few ideas of my own...
Miss you...when are you coming back to California? And not just for a visit but forever?

I like your bedroom...soothing and calm. The befores in your house are hilarious, at least for us....not so much for you. Your blog is very inspiring.

If I wasn't blinded by the psychedelic Pepto Bismal, I'd say your bedroom already looks so beautiful... but also can't wait to see what you do with it. But I can't see... so I won't. ;-p

Will you be keeping the dresser as is, or re-painting it to a pastel green, blue or pink? Keep a look out for glass knob handles.
The clear glass come in many styles and are easier to come by, but the colored glass knobs are incredible!!
