V and Co.: jelly roll jam quilt free pattern and video tutorial

hi there!
so with summer lone gone and a distant memory, we now look forward to fall. we've had a Fall-ish kind of weekend, and honestly, fall hasn't been my favorite since i moved from california. while i grew up in california, i LOVED LOVED fall. why? well because it meant pumpkins, and pumpkin smelling like candles and cinnamon. mmm i love cinnamon. and i loved the crisp cool air, the fun decor and thanksgiving (oh and my birthday as well) but since moving to places that have winter, i no longer love fall i just like them because AFTER fall means all H-E double hockey sticks breaks lose and we get that stupid stuff snow. nope, don't like it. so summer has turned into my favorite season.

this weekend seemed to have been such a lovely fallish weekend, cool temps, a little bit of rain, and a whole heck of a lot of family. we had a lovely time building and launching rockets, going to soccer games, church, and family meals. we ended the weekend with renting iron man 3.
yeah, this weekend made me feel like i could love fall again. and plus i might not hate the snow that much, it just means i get to quilt more. ;)

okay but that's not what you came here for is it? if you are new here visiting from the Fat Quarter Shop, WELCOME! i'm Vanessa and this is my blog that i ignore a little too much these days, and keep trying to keep my promise to just write about my nonsense and projects a little more regularly. i will try to keep that goal. :)
for the rest of you who are regulars: HI! welcome back! thanks for sticking around.

okay, ready for a fun little project the fat quarter shop has created?
i am so excited to finally get to show you another project i've worked on these last few months. it feel like there is so much behind the scene work these days that i hardly get to show off half the things i am working on nope, try more like 3/4 of the things i am working on right when i make things. but that's okay cause at some point i get to show you and well with this project now is that time!

the fat quarter shop has created a video tutorial a pretty fun little FREE pattern called the jelly roll jam using one jelly roll to make TWO baby quilts.
so using my simply style jelly roll:

i was able to make a boy and girl version of the jelly roll jam quilt.

i am completely in love with this boy version
for the boy version i used all of the yellow, and a lot of the navy, aqua, lime, and gray. this pattern was super easy to follow and ahem, i made the quilts in less than a day.
start to finish people.
i really love the look so straight line quilting (and i'm not going to lie) it's what i feel most comfortable doing because i feel like i've not practiced enough with FMQ that i can master it just yet.

in the boy quilt i used most of the rectangles, oblongs, and ombre chevrons. when i looked at the fabrics i felt like these were the most boyish looking ones in line.
i think it turned out pretty cool. and i have a close friend having a little baby boy soon, so it already has a home.
and now for the girl version.

this cute girl quilt consists of most of the flowery prints. the large and small ones! i also added all the pink, and some of the navy (because i'm a huge sucker for navy and pink together!) some of the aqua, gray, eggplant hex's, and one yellow flowery print. i eliminated most of the eggplant because i felt like the pink needed to be the focal point in it.

all in all this quilt turned out super cute as well. i think this quilt has a home as well as i just found out that another friend of mine is having a baby girl.

so yeah seriously, ONE jelly roll, TWO quilts is awesome.
check out the tutorial video and check out the FREE pattern, cause it's totally worth it and totally doable for a fun quick need for a baby shower this week kind of awesomeness.
thank you fat quarter shop for having me be part of the jelly roll jam.
we'll talk soon!
some new fabric is on the horizon. :)

THanks for the chance to win!!

The Chelsea Bag! I made it with your fabric in same color. It was for my daughter for christmas last year and she still talks about how much she loves it.

Blogger Kathleen OGrady said...

Gosh you have so many great patterns it is really hard to choose one. But I kept going back to the Bloom pattern so I will pick that one. I love the Dutchman Puzzle block. It is almost like an optical illusion and I could just stare at it for a long time.
I am short also, 5'1" and I don't let that 1 inch go unnoticed. My closet is full of 3" heals and wedge slides. Gotta do what ya gotta do. Thanks for the chance to win!

Your histerical ! I'm short also, my license says I'm 4-11 I lied I'm 4-9, so what putting 2 extra inches on my license makes me feel better. ;-> Your lucky to be able to wear heels, my shoe size is a 5, I don't have much luck finding heels, so I'm always short. ;-> I love your "Bloom" pattern. Thanks so much for offering such a generous giveaway.

winners please email me with your address and what TWO patterns (that's right i just upped your winning cause i'm feeling super nice and happy :P) you would like and i'll get those and the mini charm packs sent your way asap!

congrats friends!! and thank you all who played along with me.
and i loved hearing that i'm not alone in the whole feeling the short thing unfairness. but i was pretty impressed with some of you that wore your shortness with pride. good for you, but i'll still wear my heals thank you very much. :) there seems like there will be quite a few of us doing some wheelies and races in our rascals and high heels later on in life. rascals unite!
good times.

so i have a little fun something to show you.
remember this little lady that graced the cover of my confetti quilt?
yes this baby is one of my close friends little lady.
you guys went gaga for her adorbs leg rolls and big cute cheeks
and even more gaga over her adorbs smile...wait, mouth wide open... is it a smile or is she trying to open wide enough to swallow your head whole...whatever the case i had to make a disclaimer that she was not included with the pattern and many of you told me she made your ovaries hurt.
yep you said it i didn't.

well guess what. little miss cutie has just had her first birthday.

and as you can see she's still adorably cute.
and she on a regular basis, makes my husband's heart melt.
i think we will enjoy other's peoples cute babies till we get some grand babies (yes, i KNOW not for a long time from now, but still how fun is that going to be?!)
hopefully this little lady will make another cover appearance and soon. (hint: houston here i come.)
we'll talk soon. :)

size matters moda blog hop

welcome to my turn on the size matters blog hop!

my block is the dutchman puzzle block  (free download!)

BUT as you can see i decided to go even BIGGER for my final block:
i used the ombre fabrics in the simply style line for moda, and used a white bella solid as the background.
i quilted it with 50 wt aurifil white thread using simple straight lines.
oh no worries, did you think i was all look what i made and i'm not going to show you how to make it?? nope,  i didn't leave you hanging!
i made sure to do step by step on how to make this cute quilt!

now i've shown you what i did with my block...i made it bigger.
so i have a confession to make.
most of you already know it but might as well air it out again.

i'm short. *hangs her head in defeat*
and from what i gather as life goes on, i'll get even shorter. *sigh*

i grace at 5'1" but people say i'm exaggerating because they think i'm shorter.
i'm pretty sure you can give me the stupid 1" if i'm really 5' just let it go already okay? i mean it's a freaking inch.
overreacting you think i'm being? well fine.
here's the confession part:
i wear heels like ALL THE TIME. (minus when i'm wearing flip flops, but i've been known to wear wedge flip flops as well)
i even wear them at home when no one is around. i like that i can reach cabinets without having to climb on the counters, i like how my legs look longer than tater tots, i like that i feel like not everyone is talking to a small child when they talk to me...
oh go ahead and say it! but i don't care if you tell me i'm going to have bunions or hurt my back or start tripping (uh, have you not read my blog, i trip and fall for a hobby) nothing new there.
nope, i'll wear my darn 3-5 inch heals/platforms even when i'm having to drive a rascal!

hey you know what?

that's the plan! i'll wear 5" heals (ahem perhaps some stripper shoes as well) when i'm in my late 90's cause i'll be strolling around in a rascal anyways, and if i aint walking on em...they aint hurting my feet.
so just so you know, i'm going to be a 90 year old 5" heel wearing sassy little thing riding a rascal. because.
 i.
can.
till then i guess i'll just have to suffer walking in heels.
okay here's the rest of the crew doing the blog hop!
