not the right kind of gray

please excuse this fellow blogger for just a minute (or two) as she may be dealing with a tiny mid life crisis as she may or may not of found her first gray hair EVER last week, and since telling that one gray hair to "suck that! stupid gray hair!" while she was trying to dispose of it by plucking it out and then flushing it away... that said gray hair then retaliated by sending up 5 more gray hairs all over the top of her said head earlier on this week.
plus i have some stuff i'm dealing with...that will take me away from this site for a few days... (not bad i promise) and if all goes well, things will be a little less gray hair making and then i can just focus on my gray dress hunt and then start looking for that perfect new hair color out of a bottle.
we'll talk soon, and i have a new cute fall decor how to when i come back...

A few gray hairs? You couldn't possibly be as old as "mid-life" could you? My mid-life crisis hit two years ago when I turned 41. Now that I'm 43, I'm over it.
Don't they say that for every gray hair you pluck, 5 more come to its funeral?

That stinks. I am only 26 and took after my dad. He started going gray at 23, my mom not until last year at 44!!! Are you kidding me... why oh why couldn't I have taken after her???

I'm 28 and have had gray hairs coming in for years. Hair dye becomes your friend.

OH girl. I just plucked my first gray hair out a few weeks ago. I had convinced myself it was just a funky shade of blonde (even though I'm a dark dark brunette) but have now gotten past the denial.

Hello, hairdresser? Yeah, you and me are going to be spending A LOT more time together :)

I'm 27 and have tons of gray! My dad started going gray super young- and I got his genes. I was going to go all natural (just because I hate how expensive it is and the upkeep stinks) but I gave in a few weeks ago. BTW I recently finished one of your cute pillow tutorials. I love your stuff!

Don't pluck out the gray hairs! My hairdresser said to just let them come, then cover them up. It is true that plucking does stimulate more gray hair growth.

if it makes you feel any better i've had gray hairs since i was *********17*********** not sure if i should blame my mom or husband(then boyfriend).

AND the new grey hairs stick straight up and wave at everyone! It has taken me years to stop pulling the darn things out.

I plucked my first silver beauty a little bit ago too...I showed it to my kids. They asked what it was. I told them that it was a unicorn hair and that it had magical powers.

Yip, yip for magical me!

Well I started getting grey hair at the tender age of 27 and to tell you the truth I am now 49 and love my grey hair and wonder why I ever coloured it.

Don't worry too much or you get lots more, big grin
cheers

no worries, I found my first at 16...then again an eating disorder MAY have contributed. If you pull one out, two (or five) grow in its place. Best plan is to either hide it or color it. at 26 I conside3r myself 3% grey.

I think I found my first grey hair when I was 24...have a few more now (although not many thankfully)! Can't wait to see your perfect grey dress!

Hang in there girl! Love this post though, you made me laugh! :) Hugs!

I am SOOO feeling your pain. Found my first THREE last month and then made the mistake to go on a gray hair hunt...I lost count...then I cried and then I went to target and bought out their hair dye department.

It was like I turned 31 and grey just starting seeping in on my lush brunette territory. I blame pharmacy school....oh...and I also have a study wrinkle. Getting old is not as sexy for women as it is for men...GR!

I found my first grey when I was in the bathroom on an airplane. I almost had a full on meltdown. There was definitely hyperventilating and tears. Mind you I was still in my twenties. I plucked it. Then a few months later I was driving and I looked in my rear view mirror and there with a ray of light shining down and highlighting it was my second grey. I almost crashed my car! I plucked that one too! But since then I haven't seen another. :)

I started going grey at 18. Thank goodness for hair dye. Unfortunately now that I hit 35 they've started coming with a vengeance. The little bastards like to pop out right around my face first now AND they come out faster than I can color them.

It happens to the best of us! (unfortunately :)

I've been there too! My hairdresser said if you really don't want them there, cut them at the roots, don't pull them out or one day you'll have very thin hair. Sounds about right. Mine are all at the front and insist on sticking straight up!

You are still just as beautiful as you were 2 weeks ago :o). And always remember, other people won't notice unless you tell them ;o)

Thank you so much for the funny!! Never, never pull!! Highlight to blend :) Experience speaking here. Enjoy your few days away and recognize you've earned your occasional grey :) ... you're a mom, aren't you!?!!

Wear them like a crown! Proudly! You can TOTALLY rock any look.

Oh, my temples are getting greyer seemingly by the day but I am still in the bathroom with the tweezers and the "take that" attitude. But now I am noticing the grey eyelashes and eyebrows lol. I think that they are going to win!

I'm also having a 'mid-life' crisis. In One month I will be 29. Yes- the LAST year of my 20's... after this year I will never be a 20-something. AND if that isn't bad enough, while I was pregnant with my twins (they are almost 4 months old)I got 2 gray hairs, and I found another one last week. I need a box of kleenex and some really strong diet coke.

V,
Had to laugh when I saw your post. I got my first gray hair when I was 28 and yes, like you I plucked that baby out and the next day there were three more.
The reason I had to laugh though was from the pic. many years ago when my son was small he had come into our room to say it's time to get and he was hungry....but when I rolled over and looked at him to say okay, mommy is up...he so innnocently said, "mommy, you like like Cruella Daville this morning." yeah, um, I wanted to hid under the covers after that. : )

The gray hairs don't bother me much--got my first in my mid-20s.

My first gray EYEBROW hair?? On the eve of my 28th birthday--that one, somehow, seemed worse.

Neither of my folks went "really" gray until their 60s, so I'm holding out hope!

I hear you sister....I'm 35 right now and have been dying my hair since I was 18. At first it was to go a different color...my natural hair (which I really haven't seen in decades) is light to medium brown with natural red and blonde highlights....I'm also extremely pale (for being Italian) so when I decided to start dying my hair blonde and black(ish) just wouldn't work with my skin color and brown was well, been there done that, so I became a bottled red head (several different red heads throughout the years). Now I dye and touch up my hair to hide those darn greys!! It's fabulous when your husband (whose about two heads taller than you) screams, "D*** your old, look at all those greys"...yeah, that means it's time to touch-up!! Some people can do grey (my mom can) and some can't...no I'm gonna be one of those old ladies still rockin red hair when I'm 70!! but I hear you and I see you....

xoxoxo
Sorry for the novel....

I'm almost 38 and have quite a bit of grey hair. I can't even remember when I first noticed them coming in, but I do remember thinking it was cool. Rock on! Natural highlights! My dad started going grey at 19, and my brother (at 41) has lovely salt and pepper hair. My mom, now nearing 70, has only recently begun to look more grey than brunette. I'm a huge proponent of aging gracefully and naturally, as well as not spending money on something I'd have to keep up every six weeks. But that's me. Have fun exploring what works best for you!

girlsmama said...

Oh, the gray. Right smack on top of the cabeza. I call it natural highlights. And you know me, I'm too lazy to dye it. I occasionally go on a plucking spree, but it doesn't seem to help. I guess we're getting older...

I started with the hair dye in my 30s just for fun. Now, I'm almost 47 and have a lot of gray. Right now, I'm growing the color out. Looks like hell. My family has asked me to color it. I refused. I don't know why.

Nice. My stray old people hairs are always thick and white. Like Mrs. Claus.

Sigh.

My first showed up at 27 during a week where nothing was going well but it has only gathered a handful or two of friends since then. They're actually closer to white than grey. Not sure it's a comfort..

Good luck with your stuff. And don't sweat the hair.

Um I'm 25 and as soon as I gave birth last year gray hairs started popping up. Consider yourself lucky that yours started coming this late in life.

Vanessa said...

Well, I'm 43 (in a week) and I've been going gray since my late 20's. (found my first gray hair around 18) At first it came in in a stripe... and I still do kinda look like Cruella! depending on how it lays that day. If I comb it over to the side it's all white! and actually my girls say mine shine so I'm not gray I'm metallic! I also like the natural look... there's not too many that go gray natural anymore.
Enjoy the new stage/look in your life!
OH and I love your blog name... I'd thought about getting a blog and calling it that. Same name, same amount of kids. Now you're one of my favorite blogs.. and you do much better at it than I would've!

The other day I looked in the mirror and saw something shiny in my hair. "ooh, my hair's sparkly!!" And then I realized it was a gray hair.

I had a huge hissy fit when I found my first gray hair at the age of 20. At 40, I am now the only sister who has gray as I am just about 100% gray. I have suffered mostly from the innocent comments from my nieces and nephews such as.... Pretty! Just like Aunt S's hair (when pulling out tinsel for the christmas tree) and as a wee one snuggles in a little hand strays up to pat my head and says You have STRONG hair!. Classic comments and stories now in my family!

so funny! i've plucked my grey hairs for maybe 10 years. then one time when i visited my older sister, i plucked the hard-to-reach grey hairs that the hair dye doesn't dye (it's kind of a ritual for us). after watching 2 full movies i had only plucked the grey hairs in 3 square inches of her head. i looked at her cross-eyed and asked when she was going to stop plucking her grey and told her that she was going to go bald. she shrugged her shoulders. it was then that i stopped plucking mine. that was 2 years ago.

i decided not to dye my hair because i wouldn't be able to stand sitting at the hairdresser's for that long and i would be obsessive about roots. amazingly i haven't been bothered too much by my grey. but recently it doesn't seem like i can part my hair to cover them anymore. :o( last time when i visited my sis i asked her to count my grey hair... i have 78. :o( i'm still determined to embrace them. i even thought about getting those tinsel wraps in my hair. i thought that they would make my grey look more purposeful. my bf said that at 37 it might look more hoochie mama than purposeful. LOL

i'm still praying that i'll take after my grandma who is 88. she is JUST starting to look grey in the family pics... lucky girl!!!
