yeah you are going to want to come back. with picnic season here...i wanted to take my second hand find and spruce it up to take it out with us on park trips
this little beauty only cost me $3...but the lid was less than desirable so i decided to do something about it to make her even prettier
got some fabric that i thought was kind of picnic-y and would also look good in my home when we weren't using it.
first i went and got batting. i used two layers of it. placed it on top of my basket lid and cut off the extra.
then i traced an oval onto the back of my fabric using my batting i just cut out as the template
then i cut out (i did 2 inches out from my line) the oval i just made. the extra fabric will fold under my lid.
where the hinges are in the back i cut out some of the fabric (not the whole way up leave some to fold under) and i put a little dab of hot glue to make sure it stays put. did this to both hinges.

next i opened the lid and pulled through the fabric so that it was inside
make your you are caught up on your repentance for swear words cause if you get that glue on you and burn yourself...you will be swearing.

I am so mad-----I just passed up a picnic basket at Goodwill because we really don't use one for picnics. I didn't even think of fixing it up for the house. I could hide all kinds of "treasures" in there. Thanks for the inspiration.
We can't wait til Monday!!
What a great idea! It doesn't even look like the same basket anymore! Can't wait to see what you have in store for Monday :D
hot glue and i... we are best friends... we have had many burns together!... where did you get that stripe?... i'm in love with it and my stash is begging for it!
Now if only it was not like 110 degrees here I coud do this and go on a picnic. Texas weather is a killer. Cute project.
I love that!! So cheery!!
Stupid cute. LOVE IT.
That is very smart & cute. I have a picnic basket [$.50 find at a yard sale] that is lined in the cutest blue gingham, but it's stained & musty. I will have to take a look this weekend and see what I can do!
Love that idea!!
Thanks for sharing this fun project! I love your red bench!!!! Have a fantastic weekend;)
very cute indeed! I think with the basket I have on hand I would have to also put a piece of fabric on the inside of the lid because it's kind of splintery (which is why I haven't used it but--duh-- I can cover it and then I can!)
Thanks for sharing your great idea!
I have one of these that I keep on top of a hutch in my kitchen. I use it to store all the BIG utensils that we only use once or twice a year, like my big soup ladels and tongs etc. Clears up my large utensil drawer nicely, and still looks cute on display.
Super Cute V.!
I love that, super cute! Have a great weekend!!
jo anns for the fabric in the home section.
I have a basket that desperately needs something like this to be done to it. Time to start digging through the fabric stash, I guess!
V--very sweet! I always love your projects anyway. Have an awesome weekend!
Love that fabric! It's perfect for a picnic basket. Very fun. =)
What a great idea! And the striped fabric is perfect!

i especially loved the part about making sure you are caught up on your repentance for cuss words.
priceless.
That turned out just darling! I can't wait till Monday!
Can you go yard-saling for me? I NEVER find anything good. Could be all those people perched 1 hr before the sales start stealing all the good stuff first....I dunno. I think this is perfect, perfect!!! Thanks for the tut!
I agree, I think you need to do a tutorial on second hand shopping. I never find anything that I can think of updating but you make me want to head out to my nearest flea market.
I really have to learn to read more carefully - I thought it said make a lid for your PANIC basket! This is much cuter.
Very cute and fun remake. Love it and thanks for the tutorial!
got to love it! it is gorgeous!
I need to go find me a picnic basket. Love the fabric :) And, oh, so easy!
Love it! I hope you love and appreciate your goodwill. It rocks! You find the best stuff!
I love it! Thanks for the tutorial.
I was reading somewhere to keep a glass of ice water close by when you're using your hot glue gun. Then, if you get glue on your finger, dip it in the ice water. This will keep you from burning your mouth if your instinct is to put your finger in your mouth when it gets in the way of the hot glue.
I can't wait until Monday! Have a great weekend.
Precious and adorable! Thanks for sharing the tutorial!
Great fabric... it makes me want to find a picnic basket!
What a great idea. I have a picnic basket in the attic. I might have to go get that down.
I need to go back to the thrift store and see about the basket I passed up. I hope it is still there! :o) Your basket is precious! Thank you so much for posting your tutorials. It has been such a blessing to me!
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne

I have a laundry basket like that! Why 4 I never thought to make a cover. LOL. You could get really ambitious and cover the inside and put places for silverware and napkins. Ooooh that would be cute. mmmm. I'll add it to my ever growing list of projects.
