turning 8

i can't believe it, but yeah, you are turning 8 today!

right now:
*you have this wonderful gift of paying attention to detail, and with that, the gift of knowing when someone needs a hug or a compliment. you've done this for me many many times. ;)

*you are super smart and LOVE to read books.

*your wit makes the whole family laugh. (i'd like to say that comes from me, your dad insists he's the funnier one between the two of us, but i have the blog audience to back me up...what does he have? ahem, i digress.)

*you STILL love anything clone troopers.

*you are shy and don't say much the minute we step out of our house.

*you love your brothers , and especially your little sister. they are your best friends.

*we finally convinced you to try a sport, you are going to do basketball for the first time this school year.

*you love traditions and so you have started the continuation of the love of the infamous ice cream cake for your birthday.

*you will get baptized this january and are super excited. :)

*you are a joy and a wonderful son. we are so lucky to be your parents, and we hope the best for you this wonderful and VERY SPECIAL year!!!

hand made holiday wreath

well, first off hello! so nice to meet so many of you! i got to chat with a few of you (um, those of you that have your email attached to your comments sure make it easier to correspond with! hint hint to the rest of you.) ;)
yes, yes...i'll pick someone (rather random generator will) and i'll give you something. probably later today...i'm still working my tail off trying to finish next weeks challenge for sytyc. i think it will turn out cute. i hope. and i have my son's birthday to prepare for. so for now here's a mini tutorial of a holiday wreath i made last week.
this is just one of the holiday-ish project i've been working on. how many more i will be able to completely finish in time to show you...i don't know but i'm just knocking them off one at a time.
if i were to be able to pick how my christmas tree would look like, it would have these three colors on it. granted yes, it looks like it belongs in the book how the grinch stole christmas
. but those are my colors at the moment!
how i created this wreath is basically the same way i created my pine cone wreath, except this time i used 2 packages of these little foam balls i bought at tai pan. i lightly spray painted the foam wreath green.

and of course just like the pine cone wreath it took some time and patience. i only burned my fingers like 10 times with the hot glue, but now instead of actually "swearing", have resolved to using the phrase "oh swear word!" it works just as good. thanks to the nice gal pal that i heard using that phrase at church the other day. i laughed pretty hard and thought i would give it a whirl. go ahead you know you want to as well.
and there you have it, a holiday wreath worthy of being part of the "how the grinch stole christmas
" scenery.

halfway done

with like a bazillion projects and everything else it seems.

so for now i'd like to leave you with this picture, imaginary elevator music and well, lets make this fun...for me. if you want to play...

tutorial: that lime green necklace

i keep getting comments and emails over this necklace and weather or not i was going to show you how i did it. okay well it's not that complicated i think you can figure out that i strung wooden beads. so this tutorial will be for how i got an even coat over my beads with spray paint.
*i used a styrofoam half sphere (in the flower section in the craft store, or walmart.)
*i then got tooth picks.
*because the holes in the beads were wider than the tooth picks i put a little piece of tin foil at the tips of the toothpicks.
*i also used my left over spraypaint "ivy leaf" by krylon. (IN.LOVE.WITH.THAT.COLOR)

*i placed the styrofoam inside a box ( it's too cold to do it out in the back yard, and now i either have to do it indoors or in the garage).
*i then LIGHTLY sprayed the beads. let them sit for a little (like 5 minutes) and then repeated.
*let them dry completely
then i flipped them over and did the same step as i did on the other side.
let them dry, flip them over AGAIN, repeat steps till you get it completely covered with paint and you are happy with it.
i did 3 "flips" because i wanted the paint to be really solid. no wood showing through.

i love the combo of brown and lime green so i chose brown ribbon for the necklace.
i made sure i had enough ribbon at my "ends" that it would be easy to tie my necklace around my neck.
* then i made a knot.
i then stranded my beads. i wanted a few off centered big beads so i placed them accordingly.
tie off your other end and make sure you put Fray Check on your ends of your ribbon so the ribbon stays intact.
and there you have it.
