confessions of a multitasker: your chance to win $250

This is a compensated review by BlogHer and Intel.

hey there! happy pre thanksgiving day. have i mentioned this is my favorite holiday? i can't wait!
but first off lets make one of you grateful you read this post...ready?
i tend to be a multitasker. rarely do i sit down and do just one thing for a long period of time.
i've been like that since i can remember. as a matter of fact my mom tells me to slow down...she's been singing that tune since i can remember! love you mom!
so now that i'm a mom and a blogger and try my hand at making patterns and on the community council for the elementary school and just recently got asked to be in the presidency over the elementary school kids in my church, not to mention making sure i attempt to keep the house somewhat clean and kids on task... all on a daily and weekly basis... i think i can say that i must in fact STILL multitask a lot. plus well, i'm usually running around with five or more things on my mind and in my hands at any given point.

i try real hard not to do this often but sometimes they have to come and hang out till i get off the computer... wonder what the other two are doing? probably no good in my book. ;)

there is one thing i've made a conscience effort this year, and that was to try to work only when the kids are at school because i'm mom first and EVERYTHING ELSE second. so i've tried real hard not to be locked away in my office while the kiddos are around. sometimes i don't get everything done before they come home from school. i have to leave things half way done and walk away from them till i can get to them at a more convenient time. as you can imagine, editing pictures, answering emails, and blogging in general has taken a huge hit... by the way if you've emailed a question and not heard back from me in a little while i guess this is my way of saying "sorry! i'm on a limited time frame!"

volunteering, homework, cub scouts, church activities, music, art lessons, and sports just to name a few (aka mom duties), limit my time being in a stationary spot for too long as well.

would i change anything about it?
no FREAKING way.
do my "other extra curricular activities" not get taken care of all the time?
oh heck yeah.
but that's what i've decided:
kids first everything else after.

okay so enter in Intel and blogher. i was asked to review a lap top with an Intel core i5 processor and a WiDi adaptor allowing me to use my HDTV as a monitor. they'd like to see if this would help me with my "other activities"
sure, let's really see see if in fact a lap top (which the husband and i have been talking about getting me) would help me multitask a little better.

and well the lap top has been provided, by Intel and shall we see?
give me till monday and i'll come back and report the differences, if any.

and now enter where you are grateful for reading this post today
so a big THANKS to
Intel and blogher for this next part:

for a chance to win a $250 gift visa card for Best Buy:

1.) leave me a comment: are you a multitasker? how do you do it? inquiring minds want to know. (please include your email address to the end of your comment)

only two entries per email address.

okay now if you don't mind me i have a little bit of sewing to do in between brining my turkey, and baking pumpkin and apple pies. hopefully i'll have them ready to come out just in time for the kids and husband to come home.
i'm so happy.
we'll talk soon.

I'm a multitasker. I use lists--helps me to keep track of all the things I'm doing at the same time!

I am a bit of a multitasker. I watch TV or a movie while I make blocks or Free Motion Quilt. I also eat breakfast while I read blogs and catch up on email etc. Ha ha.

I multitask all the time - I don't know if I am capable of focusing on just one thing anymore!

I am diffidently a multitasker, I think all women are, especially moms, we have to be otherwise we wouldnt get things done, I try not to expect to get everything done and realize that by breaking things into smaller projects it makes it less intimidating and I know I will finish what I start, I also ask for help when it gets to much to handle and my husband joins in and helps out, he sees things differently and that helps me decide on how to do things sometimes,
thanks for the great giveaway

being a single mom of a toddler, full-time nurse, doing on-line classes, and trying to keep the house in order and find time to craft I absolutely am a multi-tasker!

I am definitely a multi-tasker. With three kids at home plus a granddaughter, I have to be. I make lots of lists and most of the time I follow them, that is if I don't lose them. haha I need a better list making system I think. I would LOVE to win! Seriously! :)

I think being a mom makes you a multitasker. I am a mom of 2 kids and I always have several projects going on at once. Right now with Christmas around the corner I have 6 projects that I am working on, what am I thinking?

I'm definitely a multitasker- I'm a full time student working 20 hours/week to earn my tuition and also spending 20 hours/week on an internship to gain experience before I start the job hunt (which will be an added task on my list this spring). I don't know how I do it, really, except I can tell you I don't sleep enough. I look forward to the days of having a routine involving time dedicated to sleeping!

I'm a multitasker. It's all about keeping things where I can see them and setting alarms constantly. My alarms keep me from burning food or missing a load of laundry being done while I craft.

I call it multi-tasking...but my loved ones call it A.D.D. :) I am constantly trying to do several things at once and I call it a success if most of them get done. Such is life as a mom, I guess.

I am a multitasker, but I was better at it when I was younger. I think Moms have to be in order to survive! Now I usually try to have hand work available for TV time and waiting time (like at the docs). I often check emails and blogs while cooking-simmer 10 mins and then add.... Sew while waiting for laundry to get done. No fantabulous tips here :)

I am a big fan of multitasking!! With a 3 yr. old you have to, or you would never get anything done. I am always doing laundry, cooking dinner and playing with my son all at the same time, while trying to do something crafty.

Isn't every woman a multi-tasker? I am pretty sure it comes with the DNA. Technology definitely helps me multi-task. Having the internet on my cell phone while out shopping, being able to work on my laptop while sitting on the bed burping the baby, etc. I could go on and on.

i always multi task- wonder if maybe i have some adult add :) I would probably get more done more efficiently if i just concentrated on one thing at a time

I find that lists and timelines help me be an efficient multi-tasker. I even make timelines for getting housework done! If a don't, laundry can take an entire day!

Sarah DeSalvo said...

I do multi-task but feel guilty when my children suffer for it. I try to give them my complete attention when I am doing something with them - not that they have to have my full attention all the time! I am trying to simplify my life, and that means being more intentional about things rather than doing lots of things half-a**ed :-)

Rachael said...

Um, I think I am the worlds worst multi-tasker. I am at a clear disadvantage for motherhood because of this. On the bright side, I can focus my energy on one thing when I am really into it!!!

I have been agonizing about a hdtv with built in dvd player for our bedroom verses a laptop for 3 months now. I am not super tech savvy, but have been really leaning toward the laptop since it can do so much more than a tv and we could have it at optimal viewing distance for movies and tv shows. Your review of this laptop sealed the deal. thanks so much for all the great info.

My multitasking capabilities are sometimes my downfall. I think that one more thing won't be a big deal, then my brain gets overloaded. Not a good thing. Basic things are eating breakfast while making my lists for the day/week. Baking/cooking while involving the kids so they learn how. dsbohon@gmail.com

Well, I work full time in an engineering and environment firm where I'll be answering and screening calls, typing in lead data, having lunch and etc. all at the same time!!

I also own a restaurant so during the day, I'll also be calling different stores for cost of prawns or mushrooms or frozen chicken breasts, ordering coconut ice-cream, renewing permits and paying bills online.

I have a 10 month old baby girl and if her daycare is closed, I'll have to bring her to work with me and there'll be feeding time, play time, going for a walk time and nap time..I have no one else at home so it's just me and my baby..I clean dishes, do laundry, watching Baby Einstein and vaccuming the floor..

When I am at my restaurant on weekends, I'll have my baby in my carrier and wait tables!! Am I a multitasker? - prettyfreda@hotmail.com
