this one right here is my favorite, it could also be that i like the fact that it has three shades of the same color. whatever the case its my favorite. :) she knows that and i'm just waiting for it to show up at my house. she knows my address so i'm not quite sure what the hold up is. >:)
another fun one that i love in this book which i am willing to have as well, is this cute bella solid
and last but not least that i want in my house...is this gorgeous lots of white with beautiful stars.
so there you have it the three quilts i'm waiting to show up at my house.
sooooo:
julie has asked me 3 questions to answer:
All of the quilts in Skip the Borders are... borderless! Do you skip borders on most of your quilts?
actually, i only have like 3 quilts that i've made that do not have borders. for some reason i usually add borders. BUT i'm actually falling in love with the idea of no borders!
In the intro to my book I give you Permission to Break the Rules. Do you break some quilting rules? What is the number one rule you break and why?
ha! um...i think i always break rules because i kind of experiment to learn so i do things my way, before i ask any questions. so i guess that's breaking rules. sometimes i like my way of doing things, but when i finally get around to learning how others have done things, i like that too.
It's no secret that I love binding! In Skip the Borders I included an entire chapter on binding. So the million dollar question, is do you use bias or straight of grain most of the time? STRAIGHT!!!! because i feel like i can get more bang for my buck.
okay so now we have the same questions for you:
1. Do you skip borders on most of your quilts?
2. Do you break some quilting rules?
3. Do you use bias or straight of grain most of the time?
you can answer one or three:
it gives you one or three chances!
up to you!
if you chose to do more than one chance please answer each question in a separate comment with you contact email at the bottom of each comment.
you have till thursday at noon to enter.

so sorry
If the pattern calls for border then I probably add the borders, sometimes even making them wider if I want a bigger quilt.
There are rules??? :0
I would say that I use straight most of the time.
I sometimes skip the borders. It depends.
I've broken some rules because, well, I didn't know they were rules. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Straight...I feel bad using so much fabric otherwise.
I often skip borders....depends on the design.
i rarely cut on the bias..chickensh*t I guess.
rules? what rules? I don't need no stinkin' rules. (yeah, of course I do follow some of them)
All of my quilts have borders, but I like the look of the quilts in Julie's books, so maybe there's a no border quilt in my future!
Straight of grain binding - I agree - more bang for the buck. Love to win!
I'm sure I break lots of quilting rules, but try not to get my shirt in a knot over it!
I've never done a quilt without borders but it looks amazing! But, how to achieve that without puckering? I usually use the grain. Breaking quilting rules? Probably but not on purpose!
I use straight of grain binding. Thanks for the chance!
I've never done a boarder-less quilt but I do love the look!
I'm still new to quilting and not quite rebelious enough to break any rules, yet.
I usually use straight of grain, bias seems a little tricky for me still.
I always used to have bordered quilts, but I made Raspberry Dessert and loved the borderless look.
I sometimes break rules, but am mostly obedient.
I've always used straight of grain binding.
I'm not sure I've ever skipped the borders! I'd love to win this book and check out what I've been missing!
I'm sure I break the rules--sometimes my seams just don't match up. I'm fine with it.
Always use straight-grain.
I use straight of grain.
I haven't skipped the borders yet, but I'm going to!
Rules???
I am currently making my third quilt. So far they've all had borders, but I look forward to making a borderless quilt very soon!
Hi. The more I see border less quilts the more I am starting. To use them. A cool pattern doesn't need anything to detract from it

Rules---sometimes it's fun to make your own rules
1. Do you skip borders on most of your quilts?
No, I have not. But I will try it on one of my mini quilts.
2. Do you break some quilting rules?
Depends on the out come of my rows. Then I use a border.
3. Do you use bias or straight of grain most of the time?
I use both depending of the look of the top.
Thank you for sharing today...Judith, Texas
I love using borders :)
Oh yes, I do break rules!
Straight of grain for my binding
almost always - I do borders - but the idea of not doing them is attractive
I'm fairly new to quilting. So far all my quilt have borders. I have on quilt in progress which I'm still deciding whether to skip the borders or not.
I love the bias-binding and usually love a stripe fabric for my binding which looks super cool when cut in bias.
I often follow the pattern with borders. I love expanding quilts using borders, but some quilts just scream "don't box me in" and I follow my gut on that;)
I don't know which rules I break and which I follow. I just try to do my best and hope that my quilts are loved.
I haven't used bias binding yet, but can't wait to try it out. I just learned how to cut it properly, so I guess I'm going to follow the rule until I learn which rule I need to break. LOL
I use borders to make my quilts bigger!

Judging by the look on the face of the lady who owns the quilt shop when I go in there for help, I'd say I break the rules. And that I'm a little sloppy with my seam allowances. :)

I like using bias cut borders.

I tend to always use borders, but I love Julie's use of no borders
I don't know if I break any rules or not, as I just do things my way.
I love binding and always use straight of grain
Bias binding all the way. Works much better for me and is so much fun with a stripe fabric.
I generally add borders. Actually, I have such a hard time with finishing, it is hard to say what I do!
And rules are made to be broken, or at least challenged or tweaked, so I guess that would be a YES!
I skip the borders quite a bit :)

I break the rules :)
I use straight-grain binding :)
Skipping the borders is something that I am currently challenging myself to do....I LOVE the look but I keep wanting to add a dang border... I will keep trying and I WILL WIN.. just might take me a bit!
Sometimes I skip the borders, depending on the pattern....
Rules? There are rules??? :-)
straight of grain....
i never skip the borders...always seemed to think the blocks needed a frame
i am a rule follower, so i always do things the way i'm supposed to
i always use straight-grain binding unless i've decided to scallop the corners
I mostly skip borders
there are rules?
I use the straight grain
bias and I come out crooked
I break the rules.....and I know this post is after your deadline. but, I got a break from my sewing and found this book and blog tour.....very interesting and fun.! I think I will skip the borders on a couple of my unfinished tops:)!! Keep up the creativity girls!!!
I generally add borders, I use them to make the quilt the finish size I want. But I'm sure liking what I'm seeing on this blog hop.
The only rules I try to live by are cut and sew accurately, and I don't do a great job at either!
I didn't know you could not use a bias binding! One of those rules you know. But then I saw the light several years ago and I think I get a sharper look with the straight, they are easier to cut and save fabric. So I haven't done a bias binding in quite a little while.
It's a mix up for me I do like borders because I like to quilt designs in them, but I also love the way quilts look with no borders also, I've done both.
Rules, I don't like rules, guidelines yes, I follow most of those probably.
Binding is usually straight, but there are always exceptions.
I've only completed 2 quilts, one with borders &one without!
Not sure of all the rules, so I just do as I please
Straight or bias, I was love both!
I've never skipped the borders but maybe it's time to start. Thanks for showing us how.
I'm not aware of breaking rules; that's one of the best things about quilting....you can test the "rules" to develop a whole new quilting style.
The choice of my bias depends on the amount of fabric I have and the size of the quilt. Small quilts - straight of grain; large bed quilts are best to use bias. I heard it is more durable.
I am starting to skip the borders..the book with definitely help with that ; )
I am new to quilting, but I am definitely breaking the rules! I love to mix things up as I go...so far it's worked for me! :)
I use bias grain binding most of the time. I love the look. need to start experimenting with patterns on the binding more...
Me break quilting rules? LOL, I didn't even know there were rules, making my answer "Yes".
Straight and that is all I have to say on the matter. Thanks for a chance to win.
I am terrible at following patterns so I break the rules all the time which ends up getting me in trouble in the end. But hey a little imperfection is what makes it homemade
I don't make quilts, I just drool over the ones everyone else makes. :)
I love how "simple and clean" those quilts look!
