V and Co video how to: jersey fabric bracelet
okay so here's the video. holy hannah, my voice, the blurriness, and katie's off key singing in the back ground and then going to the bathroom and then asking to be wiped in the middle of it...well...you asked for it.
this may be the only time i do this...because at least when i'm typing i can back space things that sound stupid...i suck at videos...that's all i have to say.
but for those of you who need it here i am being a total goober:
yeah...i told you so.
ps: i'm still cutting and putting more fabric in the shop

Yay!! Thanks so much for this. My niece is gonna be stoked with her gift of several of these! :-)
I thought it was funny, informative, well explained and really cute! Well done!
So cute--these are so great.
And I LOVE the singing and the flushing and wiping, and pooping in pants going on:). So cute!
As soon as you started weaving around your fingers, I realized my mom taught me to do this with yarn when I was little! It's much cuter with the knit! Thanks for the video. I'm gonna have to make some for me and my girls. Maybe I will teach them how, too!
I love it... Thank you for sharing. You are just keeping it real girlfriend... kids pick the perfect time to need the most embarrassing things sometimes... we have all been there.
OMG!! That was the greatest ever! I totally understand it now. I'm so much a visual learner. Thanks so much V - and don't mind the Katie interruptions - it just shows that your are a real mom! You rock!! Jenn
I LOVE YOU!! Seriously cute video, great project, very cute kid....poop and all.
plus...I finished sewing a bag with your Abby Bag pattern and am getting ready to send you an email with pics....
I LOVE your video. I understood how to do it with the written directions. But I am so thankful I watched the video because it had me laugh so hard!!!!! Thank you!
Blurry or no, that was very easy to understand and a great video tutorial! Thank you ;)
I'm deaf. So, I didn't hear a single thing. However, I watched and understood how to make this. Easy Peasy! Just follow what you. Thank you ever so much!
Perfect!! Thank you so much! PS. I thought your video "backgroundness" was adorable! :)
Loved the video, but it was the real life bits in the background that made my day:)
You sound so young in the video : ) Have you thought about making quilts from your stash and selling them?
I would have never attempted that tutorial (and your tutorials are very easy, by the way - love the pics!!), but because of the video, now I will! As for you thinking the video quality isn't HGTV standard, it's refreshing to know you're real! It was nice to hear your voice, see a visual of how to make the bracelet, and to be able to do it along with you! Thank you for the video! I hope you do many more!
I made these too when I was little... only with yarn and one finger. We called it finger knitting.
Origional name, I know ;)
The video was great! You did a great job explaining how to do it. I really need to cut up some old shirts and give this a try.
It's nice to know there are other women out there trying to craft and create with the little ones around and needing you. It made my night hearing your daughter in the background and knowing that she's not the only one that talks about poop/ ;)

thank yo for the great video!!!
I never made one but I am going to now-video made it much easier to understand. Love the singing and sound effects in the background! Hilllarious!
this video was definately worth it. thank you so much!
(don't worry, i'm sure all your followers poop--fact of life--lol!)
So glad that I am not the only blogger who is constantly interrupted with "more important things." Thanks for sharing the video. I will be sharing this with my book club kids pretty soon.
Thanks again!
LT
It's perfect, very clear and i got it all! Way better than the picture tutorial. Don't be ashame, it's marvelous! Now i'm so going to make one out of old shirt right now!
This was hysterical. If you don't do any more of these you will miss your calling as the great quilt commedianne! but you will need Katie to collaborate with you on the poop part!
Mine would have dogs barking and DiNozzo cornering the cat in the quilt room, and the door bell ringing, and....well, you get the picture.
glen
That was great....i hope you do make more videos....singing kid = happy kid, poopin' kid = healthy kid! LOL and you are so real!
was like you were sitting right here, and we all were having a girlfriends get together.....
I listened to your radio interview and that was great..loved how you said that your husband came home to take your daughter out so no interuptions! LOL I think most of us with kids have been in similar situations with our kids! Keep it up....most of us creators are visual and videos are the best....
Keep up your great work....you are an inspiration to many of us.

As i said: Just made one! It's so cute! I love it! Used a old grey shirt from my fiance, i cut two strap that i sewed together, and hide the place they meet under the bracelet! Super cute and comfy, i'm in love! Can't wait to do more :)
This is the best vlog I have ever seen. It really brought a smile to my face.
Thank you
Thank guys! Now you guys can hear it first hand how nuts we really are! :) that was fun I'll have to do it again sometime! :)
That was terrific! Thanks so much!
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing and please do more.
Best video tutorial EVER! lol...very informative and funny at the same time. Thanks :D
Thanks for the video! Cant wait to make one. BTW, I was DYING laughing at your daughter in the background. Too funny. Story of my life :)
Que estupenda pulsera, voy a aprender a hacerlas

thanks for the video. i love you daughter in the background. my daughter will be three on Sunday and she is the same way.
Oh I TOTALLY LOVE your video...and Katie! She is so cute!! thanks for the tutorial...I'm raiding my sister-in-laws scraps to make these! I'm following you now Vanessa.
This was a GREAT video tutorial. I just loved hearing your daughter's voice singing...and then her needing "help" from you. ;)
HAHA! I laughed out loud for sure! Great video, and the wiping incident only made it more fun. We've all been there! ;)
Best. tutorial. video. ever.
Your daughter is hilarious! I love it!!!
i always get asked for a wipe right in the middle of my sewing or cooking or something important. part of the mommy fun package. gotta love it.
GIVEAWAY of VANESSA'S PATTERNS on my blog this week.

love it :) thanks so much...
So easy! Thanks for that info. By the way...I have 2 small boys and the majority of their convos are about poop....so I'm in the same boat as you ;)
Trina
thanks so much!! i think you did a great job! poop and all. :)
Thanks for putting up a video. I didn't realize how easy these are to make when I saw the photo tutorial. I literally made 6 of these in about 15 minutes. I blogged about it here:
http://zaaberry.blogspot.com/2011/04/slightly-obsessed.html
I made these all the time as a child!! We used yarn though. So hip!
Vanessa,
I can't see the video! What should I do? (download anything?)
I really want to see normal people in the middle of a normal life! And I'd also like to hear your voice: that's something we miss as blog readers from the other side of the world!
Thanks for sharing this with us!

Thank you so much. Don't know why I couldn't get it from the pictures! The video helped a lot!
Love it!! Thanks for sharing :)
The video was so helpful, thank you!!! and I just love the background noise. My daughters talk about poop all the time. Good to know I'm not alone. :-)
Oh my goodness! Will you please be my friend? You crack me UP!! I love the lack of airs and perfectionism. I appreciate you being real!
I love the braided bracelets. Just gorgeous!
Vanessa- This might sound really dumb but you don't sound anything like I thought you would! Don't ask me what I thought you'd sound like but what was in my head was totally different!
So, I don't know how I missed your post about your hubby's job, but somehow I did and then when I saw the Lake Havasu post I was like, wow, I'm surprised they're looking for a different job when they just bought a house since I missed the other post. Anyway, I am sorry to hear that. We have been in the same boat multiple times and it is always hard and always a shock so I can feel for you. I hope things all work out well for you guys and he finds something good soon, in a good place.
Elisabeth
You're hysterical. I remember those days! What's a day without poop! Oh, and thanks for all the great and concise directions. I'm trying this. Awesome.
I absolutely love the video! I have two boys but go through the same things here. And honestly, I think it's great for viewers to see or (hear) because really, this what mothering or (parenting) is and why many times our children have some part of why us crafters love to craft!
Great video, can't wait for the next.
Sharon
Oh thank-you for this! I thought I was the only one doing video tutorials with kid filler LOL! Well done, it was clear, easy to follow, funny and charming all at the same time :)
the video was very helpful thanks! still don't understand the 4 finger one though, but that's ok.
oh my.... brings back so many memories of elementary school--i did yarn versions for my economics fair project. who would have guessed 25 years later theyd be popular again?!?!
That's ok. Everybody poops. ;D Thanks for the video.
Educational AND entertaining! Thanks for the videos and the giggles. :)
Thank you so much for sharing! I am going to attempt to make these and sell them for the charity: water campaign my family and I are doing! http://mycharitywater.org/anderson
Wish me luck, I am SO not a crafty person. ;p
What are you talking about? Your video was AWESOME!!!! Informative AND entertaining!
I'll be making these bracelets at my next Crafty Night---so excited to share! (Posting on my blog soon too.) Thanks so much!!
Love, Loved the video. It made me smile and giggle. Your daughter sounds as delightful as you do. I love your sense of humor. It reminded me of when my children were little. Remind me to tell you a funny story when we have time together. See you soon!
What a wonderful video...just what I needed this fine morning!! Love the sweetheart in the background too! Thanks Mommy, I'll most definitely be making a few of your bracelets. :~)
Thank you so much for this! I tried it when you first posted the tutorial and got it but some how trying it now I couldn't figure out out again. Thanks for the help! You and your kiddos are adorable, I think ANYONE can understand that kids "say the darnedest" ;)
Thanks so much for this!!! Going to cut up some of my hubby's T's right now. :)
I have four boys and it's refreshing to hear a girl talking about poop too! Better poop than penis, huh? ha
I've just been perusing through your posts and I just want to say that you've got a great blog here! I look forward to reading heaps more!
Cheers! Your latest follower Rambles with Reese
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!! :) I really appreciate it! Everything was so much clearer. Plus your daughter was cute!
I loved your tutorial. With five kids here, all of the background happenings so very much is something I can relate to. Plus you've given my girls a new, easy craft project to work on this summer.
I loved it. Thanks Vanessa
L-O-V-E loved it!It's so nice to know you're "normal" and deal with poop everyday too! I Love all your stuff, thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you for posting the video. Gosh, I had to laugh, as a mom I can relate! I just giggle every time your daughter chimed in and you having to stop for a potty break. Sounds like our house. You did great on the video, no need to apologize. It was very helpful, I am going to run downstairs to my craft room and make some tonight for my daughter and I.
I watched this a few months ago when you posted it and now just watched it again to 'get serious' about learning how to make these! I'm in charge of girls' camp crafts and this is one of the three projects I'm teaching to 150 campers! Hooray for your awesome tutorial.
And welcome (shortly) to the Midwest! I'm in Eastern Kansas. I will say, we moved here in August 3 years ago and the humidity wasn't that bad. Having lived here for the last 3 years, though...August is THE WORST month in the area. HOT, HUMID. But once you've inoculated yourself it can only get better from there. Until next August rolls around.
Thanks again for the fab. video.
Thank you for the video tutorial! I was ready to throw my jersey down in disgust when I realized you had a video. Now I have an awesome green bracelet.
Thank you so much for the video! I actually sat here learning and chuckling with your darling Katie's commentary in the background. LOL!
Looking forward to more videos!
Haha this was a great video thank you so much! Your daughters commentary cracked me up.
great video. thanks so much!
Oh my goodness! Adorable bracelet, great video and hysterically funny! Thanks for the info and the laugh!
hahaha, spirit fingers! It does make the bracelet how-to easier to understand, thanks.
Thank you very much for this tuto. I'am a french fan (sorry about my english!)
Very easy witch your video.
Loved this tutorial-I'm going to go make this right now. And I laughed a lot-so funny with the kiddos in the background!!!
Found your tutorial via pinterest and I just wanted you to know that the video was super helpful!!
Your video was awesome! Thank you for the tutorial
Thank you for the tutorial!! I am definitely a visual learner!!
And don't worry, for those of us who have 1 or more kids, we totally understand the butt wiping in the middle!! Lol! Thanks again!
As someone who had to stop and wipe her own toddler while watching this, I loved it hahaha! So many DIY videos are perfect looking ladies with quiet backgrounds and neat spaces and I'm thinking how the heck do you have kids if there's no mess and no noise! You made me feel normal! Hahaha!
Love it! My daughter was just singing the "pooting song" from the bath tub. Good to know I'm not alone. :-) We're going to attempt to make some of these with my old T-shirts tonight! Thanks for the video!
love! Just taught my 6 yr old to finger knit so this will be perfect for her! She can make cristmas presents for everyone! Plus we will probably use old tshirts and then dye them!
Saw you on Sew, Mama, Sew. Love this tutorial. Makes you feel like you are learning from a friend because when you are a mom, there is always some sort of poop talk going on. I'll be making braclets today.
Lol, great video and nice to know that normal things continue to happen even when one is trying to be a film maker. Another Handmade Holidays item I'm going to make. I have a few little grandkiddos who'd love one of these.
Cheers,
Robyn

I am GOING to make these for all of my girlfriends for Christmas. I will I will I will!
this is adorable but i'm so confused. how many strips are you using? i thought you had a 58 inch by 1 inch strip, but obviously there is more if you're sticking another strip through the hole at the beginning. then in the video you say just ask for a "3 inch length" but that's definitely not long enough to make the bracelet! please help! thank you!
Sorry 3" in width with the length of 42" does that help?
Also I use two strips to answer the question of how many strips, and then I add another one if its too short. Does this help?
I'm so glad you did a video! I was trying with yarn to practice and didn't get very far. Now I,ll be making them for everyone I know for Christmas:) thanks
Thanks so much for the video! Daughter in the background made it even better! Talk about real life--this is exactly how crafting times is at my house-times 2 (twin 3 year old girls)! I laughed out loud. :). Thanks againg. Doing these for nieces for Christmas.
Thank you so much, it was wonderful, poop and all:) Such a sweet total "Mom" video. Very informative... sometimes you just have to watch it to get it. Thanks again!
weow! that's awesome i'm so pumped to wear mine!
I love these braclets. The small one that you made as an example would make are really cute ponytail band. TFS
Tracy
yay!! I got it now! Thanks to that video :)
Thank you so much for the video tutorial. I'm the visual learner that needed that, and funny note while i was watching the tutorial MY daughter (8months) decided she wanted watch too, so she pulled herself up and dragged the laptop from my lap to the floor in one fluid, ninja like motion. I was laughing to myself when I heard your little girl too... miles apart and they're in cahoots with each other, who'd have thunk it! Anyway, I love the bracelet and appreciate you taking the time for the video.
These are awesome! I made one tonight. can't wait to get more fabric to make more. great tutorial - thanks
This is so great! Thanks for taking the time to show this. I especially love all the every day life stuff happening along with the video with your daughter singing and going to the bathroom. It was so entertaining! Being a mom myself, I can totally understand! Thanks for doing the video anyway!
This is super cute! I just tried it using a old t-shirt and it looks really good! I love it!
I'm definitely going to make more and give them as gifts!
thanx a lot .... m rutu from india..i liked it and i tried this and gifted to my friend
Hi. I just watched your video. Thnak you- I really needed it to understand the weaving.:-)
I love the way you easily handle the "interuptions" by your daughter. That' really cute.
Greetings from Stuttgart, Germany!
Thank you so much for the video!! I don't think I could have done it otherwise...hehe... I NEVER post comments, but had to tell you thank you, and I loved all the chatter with your daughter. I've got four kids, so it just made smile. We are in Spain,... It must be so fun to know that your blog is being read all over the world, :). Thanks again! Love, love this idea!
Loved the video. Shows what your real life is like! :)
LOVED your video - from the bracelet, to pooping to the spirit fingers xxx
I'm so glad you did a video. Haven't tried it yet, but going to soon. Hoping to make some for Christmas presents. The picture tutorial was great but to see it in action was even better! The background music (and other comments/sounds) provided by your daughter made the video even more entertaining. Someday she may be mortified that you have all that memorialized online! Thank you!
How would you make these with t-shirts. I live in Hawaii and fabric stores and shipping things are hard to come by...I went to a fabric store and bought softer t-shirts in pretty colors, but I don't know how to get 60" out of them. Can I just start cutting in a spiral up the shirt until I get 60"? Just wondering if anyone else had this problem...
These are super cute! I just made a bunch for my cousins for Christmas! And I didn't read all the comments, but I know this process as "finger knitting." My husband (also a Californian) instantly recognized what I was doing and called it finger weaving. So..if you're still looking for a term to use to describe this, those are 2 that would work!
Thank you so much for explaining that in video !! Ido speak english and stuff but sometimes technical details are beyond me - french native speaker - anyway thanks for bearing with the tutorial it's so much easier to understand the breading that way. Wish you all the best
Ainole
Sorry for double posting if it's the casz x3
Anyway I was just going to say Thank you so much for making a vid it is so much more easier to understand the braiding this way cos throuch I do get english, technical indication are beyond me (french native speaker and stuff ; )
Thank you again with bearing with the video making.
Wish you all the best and keep going :D
You made 150 girls very happy last week! Thanks, I used your tutorial and taught them how to make your cute bracelets. I loved it because they could go home and make more, it was so easy and fun!
Thank you for the video! that really, really helps me. I admire you producing that video when you had to also take care of your daughter at the same time. I'm a mom to two small boys, so I completely understand! Thanks again!
Thanks so much for your video...obviously we are mostly moms and the interruptions were hardly noticeable and a sweet reminder of days long ago for me. Back to the point, your video helped me understand the two finger weave, I still need some practice on the four-fingered weave. I noticed an entry somewhere that showed some chains and charms stitched into the weaves...that is what I will do as well. Thank you so much for your help!
this was awesome! I can't wait to go home and make this! the commentary was epic!
I have made a couple t-shirt quilts so have scrap jersey knit already - this will be great! I remember doing something like this as a kid, too. Perfect for my teen sis and sis-in-law! (And myself!)
Great video and now we know you are real! All kidding aside, it was really great seeing you knit a 2 stitch I-cord with your fingers.
Off to make many of them.
Thanks for the video (I was one of the ones having trouble). Your daughter is cute! tee hee
I usually dislike video tutorials as they are often actuall LESS clear then the written kind, but I found this one perfectly clear and...lovely! :) Tank you!
Thanks for the video- it helped me! Making these for girls camp.
That was adorable. Thanks, I have been wanting to know how to make one of these. I made one but could not help but put beads in it.I left the tail long and used it to put the beads on by weaving it back on to the bracelet. Turned out real cute. Thanks again.
Thank-you for the video. Now i got how to make the knots. I admire you for doing the video. While i was watching it and you had to take care of your daughters poop, my dog was beside me and farted. lol. How do you make it out of a t-shirt that isn't 60' long. Do you just make knots in the longest pieces you can cut, to join them together to make it 60' long. ?Can you make them out of all kinds of material.? I have a box of different kinds of material which i was saving up to make things with. Sue
Loved this! Your little girl sounds so sweet! Thank you. I would happily watch another video from you. :)
You were great! Thank you for the tutorial I would have never undestood how to make these otherwise. Can so sense your happy home, thanks for sharing that too!
I love these so much and have been wanting to make them and now I have the perfect excuse--I'm in charge of crafts at Girls Camp this year here in Tennessee! But, not exactly sure how much fabric we can afford. Can t-shirts be used? If so, how would you suggest cutting them to allow enough fabric? Thanks for your help!
This is awesome! I loved this video tutorial SO much. Poop and all. So many rubbish waffly tutorials out there but you explained this technique brilliantly, demonstrated it clearly, and the aching ribs I have from the poop commentary is just a bonus. Please do more tutorials. I'd subscribe!!
Just watched your video. Cool idea. Especially loved the extra sound effects from your sweet daughter. Enjoy the moments, she will be grown in the blink of an eye.
