V and Co: Sew Red Book Giveaway

i was honored to be included in the Sew Red book. and while i don't have any personal stories of heart disease i do know the importance of taking care of yourself.

Get Heart Healthy

Did you know that heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States? Heart disease kills more women than all forms of cancer combined (including breast cancer!).
i want to be around for my kids and grandkids and i make sure that i get exercise and moderate my chocolate and salt intake. :) the chocolate is a little harder but i try.

This beautiful follow-up to Knit Red features stunning designs from more than 25 top sewing and quilting celebrities, along with three 28 x 40 black-and-white pattern sheets. But this is more than a book of breathtaking projects: it's part of Stitch Red, a campaign started by Jimmy Beans Wool founder Laura Zander to educate women about heart disease and help them take charge of their heart health. Each showcased designer—including Amy Butler, Denyse Schmidt, Anna Maria Horner, Ty Pennington, and Kaffe Fassett—shares his or her experience with heart disease and offers tips for staying healthy.

i made a baby quilt for the book, and i am very honored to have been asked to do this book :) and to be included with an amazing group of people.

if you would like a chance to win a book of your own please leave me a comment with an email attached to the bottom of the comment.
**in your comment i would like for you to tell me one thing you would change to make your life just that much healthier.

and of course you can always purchase the book to show your support (links to amazon where you can purchase.)

My family eats healthy, excessively so, but I have a weakness for donuts, which have too much processed sugar, and I sneak them on my way to work on Saturday. So I made a new years resolution to not eat any and have done well so far but if my daughter was not with me the other day I WOULD have gotten one. So I really need to stick to not consuming those sugar laden discs that tempt me so well. I guess I could also start exercising again, going up and down my stairs at home around 50 times a day, really does not count.

I've been trying to commit myself to working out 3-4 times a week. It's hard, because I hate it. :) I find myself worrying about all of the diseases I could get or things that could happen to me, but I recently had the epiphany that while I can't ultimately control whether or not I get cancer or have certain genetic predispositions, I am in complete control of how much I exercise and what I eat. So, I've been trying to focus on those things within my realm, rather than the things that are ultimately out of my hands!

I'm trying to prepare more of my family's foods from scratch so that I'm aware of every ingredient that goes in...and walking daily with my wonderful walk buddies. Thanks for supporting such an important cause!

I started jogging last September and now every Sunday I go jogging for 30 minutes. And with a friend I go to step sessions. I feel more fit and I'm not short of breath anymore when I go up my stairs.Doing sport is a sort of new revival for me as I'm going on 50.

One thing I would like/need to do is be okay with everything not getting done in a day. I need to relax and enjoy my kids, and worry less about the "mom jobs" that can wait.

well. I work with food. I wish I worked with fabric so that I wouldn't be tempted to eat so much fried stuff. thanks for the chance

Exercise is what I need. But I've just started (in my 3rd week) making a fruit/veggie/flax seek smoothie every day in order to eat better.

I need to exercise. I'll not say more as I don't exercise at all. In between working 30 hours at the hospital, looking after kids and college coursework, I just don't have the energy. However, the one thing I am working on changing is my children's lifestyles. My mum has recently had some heart problems and the Drs have told her that even though her diet in the last several years has been good, they believe the damage was done during her childhood. So, my aim is to give my children a healthier future by making sure they start now.

Yes, I would love to support the cause by buying the book, I just need to find it in the UK.

I would stop drinking so much soda, I know this would make things better, but right now soda makes me happy.

Move it! That's what I need to work on lol. Just get up and move :o) And I can see that not using it is definitely causing me to lose it. Sarah at sllj40 at yahoo dot com.

I am currently trying to drink more water which I'm not always good at but I should probably think of lowering my sugar/sweets consumption. Thanks.

This book looks wonderful! I am living with coronary artery heart disease and would like to say to everyone...please don't ignore the warning signs. As mothers and wifes we are all so busy taking care of others, but we must take care of ourselves too. Try to eat right, exercise, and get plenty of rest. Thank you!

I have been making changes in cooking by making healthier substitutions in favorite dishes and when eating out, choosing wisely. We've been watching our portions and walking a lot more. Thank you for the opportunity to win.

The biggest thing I already did to make my life healthier was to quit smoking after 30 years.

I guess I would cut back on butter, but I love it so much, I'm not sure I want to do that. It's a good idea though.
