V and Co cooks: cake cookies with sprinkles

yes, thank you for all the kind words and sympathy on my finger. had no idea how many of you out there have done the same thing.
i've not touched my sewing machine since last thursday, but today i will change that and give it another go. wish me luck.
this last weekend though we did have a nice mellow weekend, and i dare say the kids were on excellent behavior. the oldest, get this, is all caught up in school, finished his homework and was in good spirits for most of the weekend. the others were in good spirits and i can say this with disbelief but in all honesty...no one fought with each other on sunday.
it was the perfect day.
so i made cookies.
the comment "i don't know how you make them so perfect mom!" came out of two kid's mouths. while the other two double fisted and crammed cookies down their gullets. the husband did a fair share of stuffing as well.
i know! what the freak was going on? no fighting, all caught up on homework, and perfect cookie comments. i'm going with it, cause these days don't come every day.
and well because i have nothing to show you on the sewing front for now...here's a cookie recipe most of you already know, but if you don't, get ready for some perfect cookies.

what you will need for cake cookies:
1 box of white cake mix (yeah like as in a cake mix)
1 egg
1/4 cup of water
1/4 cup of oil
sprinkles for on top of your cookies

preheat oven at 350 degrees

mix:
cake mix, egg, water, and oil in a large bowl.
in a separate bowl place some sprinkles to cover the bottom of your bowl.
take a teaspoon of the cookie mixture and make it into a ball.
dab one side of your ball in the sprinkles
place sprinkle side up 1" apart from each other on your un-greased cookies sheet.
cook for approx. 15 minutes (add a little more if they seem doughy).
cool on a cooling rack.
enjoy.
and watch the cookies fly faster into your family's mouth faster than you can say "holy hannah those are good."
hopefully i'll have a sewing project done here soon. but seriously how scary does a sewing machine look after you've had that needle go inside your finger?! kind of freakin scary. :/
we'll talk soon.

Those are the cutest cookie! They are perfect for spring! :o) And look delicious!! :o) I need to add sprinkles to my shopping list. :o)
I don't blame you about staying away from the sewing machine. A bit scary to come back to it, I am sure. But you will do great!! :o) I hear it's like riding a bike! You just hop back on. :o)
Have a super day Vanessa!
Sincerely, Trish

I have made these before, usually I used a funfetti cake mix and tinted them pink. Hard to believe something sooo easy is such a hit! Your pictures do them justice!

I'm glad you're feeling better! Don't let the machine sense your fear and you'll do just fine!

By the way, I would die and go to heaven if I had a day like your Sunday. Lucky lady!!!

You have perfect timing! I've had this box of cake mix I've been meaning to use for weeks. I just love that with just a few items, you can make cute cookies. I'm so making them tom! Thanks for the recipe. Hugs!

My Son in Law goes crazy for any kind of sprinkles! He sometimes goes in my pantry pulls out the sprinkles, gets the whipped cream in a can and makes himself a snack!

Cake cookies are the BEST!! My sister in law kept them a secret for.ev.er, and we just couldn't figure out her absolutely perfect cookies. Finally, she told us how to make them, and admitted that she didn't want us to think she was lazy because they were so easy. Dude. I would be shouting/bragging/sharing my laziness for all to hear!!! lol! Thanks for sharing! I haven't tried them with sprinkles!!

ok, dumb question: when you say mix, do you mean mix with a spoon or grab the mixer?

I have that recipe too and it is fabulous!

Take care of that finger, 'cause we're dying to see what you have on the sewing table!

Oh yum! I have a huge sweet tooth and these look fab. Can't wait to try them! Thanks for the recipe!

When I make these, I use applesauce instead of the oil, that way I can pretend they're healthy =0P

Our variations...
Lemon cake mix with a lemon juice and powdered sugar glaze drizzled over the top.

Lemon cake mix with white chocolate chips.

Devils Food cake mix rolled in powdered sugar before baking.

Spice cake with chocolate chips added.

Thank you for your super easy-sugar-pleasing-quick fix!!!! made them for my hubby and five kiddos, they luvvvdd them!!!

LeAnn said...

Darn it! I keep coming back and seeing those cookies. I bought the cake mix and the sprinkles. I desperately want to make them but I keep telling myself it wouldn't be a good thing to have two different batches of cookies in the house at once. I gotta finish the chocolate chip cookie dough in the fridge first.... Why is it taking me so stinkin' long?!!!!

what am i doing wrong? when i try to roll into ball it just makes a mess in my hands. so sticky. does it require a certain box mix? thanks: )

V and Co. said...

Hmmmm, add a little flour? It shouldn't be SUPER sticky but it is sort of sticky.

I am totally going to make these tonight using a box of red velvet cake mix that has been sitting in my pantry for a while now. The question is just which type of sprinkles to use on them....

Thanks for the recipe!

Anonymous said...

thanks....I tried chilling them in the fridge....that really helped them to not be so sticky. : ) They sure are yummy!

Amy DeCesare said...

Oh, yeah...I am making these tomorrow! Have had sick kids at home all week, and we need some cookie cheer around here!

Brilliant! These are new to me and came at a perfect time- I was taking care of 2 wee ones plus my own 2 wee ones and these made me a superstar! Thank you!

I love these things! we discovered cake cookies years ago and we've always used 1/2 cup oil and 2 eggs. my favorite is the caramel cake with chocolate chips and pecans.

Alright, now that I've wiped to drool off my keyboard, I'm going to add you to my blogroll. :)

I just made these tonight using red and green sanding sugar instead of colored sprinkles, as Christmas cookies for Santa. They taste so much like sugar cookies and were so easy to make. My first batch was a little dome-shaped so I flattened my second batch a little to make them cook a little more evenly.
