katie's birthday is at the end of this month. she is all about little tiny things...and babies. she plays house most of the day and if she's not with her babies she's playing with tiny little babies that fit in your hand (well, when she's not bothering i mean playing with the dog.) i've worked on her kitchen (you can see a little of it here) in the past but now i'm focusing on her baby's needs.
upon closer inspection you can see that this little bag is carrying quite a load, and if she's anything like her mom...the more pockets the better to stuff crap in that you *think* you need. :/
this little bag was found at michaels in the scrap-booking section on clearance for $4.25. i've found like ones at walmart (in black and brown and pink)
when i saw it first (over a year ago) i thought "funny that looks like a diaper bag...oh my gosh that looks like a TOTALLY CUTE DIAPER BAG!!!" but i resisted. and walked away from it. many many many many times.
but with micheal's cute color and inside design, i couldn't resist this last time. i was finally ready to make this into a diaper bag for katie, and my excuse of it's her birthday month made it all that much easier. um especially when all she keeps talking about is baby rapunzel, and how much she wants her for her birthday... and any time i bring up ANYTHING else (seriously bikes and scooters even!) for her birthday she says "oh i like that! but i really want baby punzel." (which sounds a lot like "baby pretzel" to the untrained ear.)
sigh. okay we'll get that doll, with a ton of hair that will look like a rat's nest within a millisecond you get it...
so i went to work.
i went to target and got this cute starting kit for a diaper bag:
and i added a few other things i made like the zig zag quilt and an old cell phone i wasnt using any more...
changing pad went in first at the bottom... and we added lotion (for some reason not pictured (sorry!) but included in the collection that you get in the kit)
then the wipes and quilt...
bottles and sippy cups...
can't forget the food...
and of course the cell phone. which makes this one:upon closer inspection you can see that this little bag is carrying quite a load, and if she's anything like her mom...the more pockets the better to stuff crap in that you *think* you need. :/

yes, well minus the cloth diapers mom is still making!
um and any other suggestions on what else? i'm thinking a cute little baby book...i'll have to think on how to execute that one.
hope she likes it as much as i do. :)

Cute! How about a baby spoon? It wouldn't be very lady-like for baby punzel to eat her baby food like a dog...
I love it! What a great idea. My little girl is turning 2 in December and I had already decided that baby doll stuff was the way to go. You just gave me a great starting point! Thank you!
What a darling idea! I'm sure this thoughtful gift will make the "little mommy" very happy!
Love it!
That is AWESOME! I love all the side pockets!!!! I have made doll diapers that would look so cute in there too. Here is the link ( if it is not too rude of me) http://gogokim.blogspot.com/2011/04/dolls-deserve-good-diapers-too.html
...a bib, too.
I see someone else suggested a spoon, what about a bib? And, maybe a baby toy for Baby Punzel? So cute!!!!
This is so cute! I have two girls, so we're deep into baby dolls. If you run out of time to sew the doll diapers, you can buy a small pack of premie size diapers in the "real" baby section. They work great for dolls and are much cheaper than the doll version. With the velcro closures on the disposable diapers, kids can change their dolls over and over and over.... :)
awe, so cute! she'll love it!
Super cute!
there's a spoon already in there you just can't see it :).
and yeah, so i'm making a bib (DUH!). and diapers (that i already started but i think i'll do kim's instead!) and i am making a baby book, and she needs a little toy...and i'm thinking there are no wet wips so i'll mock some of those up...this is getting crazy.
With three daughters I'm thinking ADORABLE Christmas gifts! Love this.
that is so adorable! What a great idea you had!
how about a pacifer and clip, a little board story book and a comb and brush for all the hair.
enjoy!
Too cute! Next you know Baby Punzel will need to have a miniature this and that for every this and that you sew. It will get serious. Your family and friends will probably stage an intervention.
I'm going to ask a super creeper question. Ready? What do you use to make your house smell yummy? I know, wait, come back! ;) I bought some fabric off you when your hubby was laid off and commented it smelled really really good and you joked about your Vanessa Smell. I can't find anything anywhere that smells quite so clean and lovely and not aggressively floral or musky or sweet. So now my teenage brother sniffs happily away where he lives in my basement because my rejects keep being banished down there. He seems quite pleased with my trial-and-error but I'm getting scowly and am one step short of just using essential oils with a burner. If that's the real answer then I hate myself a little bit.
also, obviously baby rapunzel will need a vast array of headbands and hairclips.
Definately burp cloths. I made a diaper bag for my daughter and she uses them all the time. She loves to feed her babies bottles and then burp them and wipe their faces with them.
what an ADORABLE gift! i agree that rapunzel will need an array of hair things. :)
laura, the Vanessa smell is apple cinnamon plug ins by glade
now who needs an intervention? ;)
This gramma grabbed her hubby and ran to Michaels with her 50% off coupon and scored the same doll diaper bag for her adorable 4 1/2 year old granddaughter. This is for Christmas and will be filled with all sorts of baby things for her doll. Thanks for the heads up. Saved me making one. I love your blog and have lots earmarked to make for Christmas for two adorable grandkids.
So cute! Such a clever present! And all about the Vanessa's smell... Very funny! I'm a very smelly person myself and I think the smell of a house speaks of its owner. Now I have an even higher opinion of you!
Adorable!! Are there any bibs?
Great idea! And I am feeling your pain on a Rapunzel baby, the Rapunzel barbie came to live at our house for my 3 year olds birthday, not only is it a ratted nest that can't be combed, the hair falls out whenever its played with.
Oh that is super super cute. I'm thinking my Miss 2 could maybe get one for Christmas.
Tiny is always better!!
Keys to the minivan...but they should be secured to the very bottom of the bag, cause that is where mine always ended up!
OMG! And I never use that term, but this is the perfect Christmas present for my 3 1/2 year old. She is going to go nuts! Thank you so much for sharing. - Jess at OlyMomma
cute, cute, super cute!
I was going to say keys too! You could stitch a little loop of ribbon with a metal hook on it to the top of the bag & hook a set of baby keys to it so mom can take baby to the mall...
You're hysterical. Reading through the comments cracked me up. What an awesome gift. My future granddaughters (and there WILL be some if they know what's good for them) thank you!
I watched a show once on how to take care of Barbi hair. The maker of a Barbi said never use the brushes that come with them- get the metal bristle brushes and use those, their hair should last longer. I LOVE THE BAG!! Wish my girls would have played with dolls!!!
Did the diaper wipes & changing pad come in the kit from Target? This is a fab. idea, I already ran out and bought my 2yr. old a bag for Christmas. She plays with her baby no stop these days, and we'll be bring a new baby home in the coming months so this will be perfect so she can have all her own baby things to care for her doll. Thanks for sharing.
Holy Crap Girl, it's like you knew exactly what my daughter needs for Christmas! Sold and Sold, done and done! I'm going to Michael's tomorrow to get a bag. Such a great idea! I LOVE this! i just found a babycar seat at DI for 50 cents, this is going to be the best present ever!
Super blog and nice writings

The only thing missing from my diaper bag is extra clothes in case of explosions! But I don't expect Rapunzel to have that problem. (my daughter calls her Punzel too btw.) maybe a mini frying pan as it is Rapunzel...
Your diaper bag idea is too cute! Thanks for sharing:)
Vanessa! thank you, I've got everything, but am wondering where did the cute wipes container come from and did you make the changing cloth?
Vanessa: Where did the cute little wipes box and the changing pad come from? Thanks.
This is the greatest idea. Thank you so much!
I cannot find that bag anywhere! Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, Target....UGH! Any suggestions? I want to give this awesome gift to my daughter for Christmas. Thanks!
Oh, my gosh that is sooooo cute. I could see my little one being ready for one at about Christmas time, or maybe next year for her birthday. She's just now getting into the pretend play with her little kitchenette, and I can see her starting to really like dollies (dah-wees). Thanks for the inspiration!
